Bella Donna, for sure... In fact, there's a few female led bands that deserve a fair shake at these lists, and it's a shame that not one of them has even made a honorable mention. If we can include Ozzy with Black Sabbath and his solo career, surely we could make an argument for Stevie. She's touring right now, iirc, and she is what, 75?

One that I would definitely include on here is Boston's self-titled 1976 debut. With an album as legendary as it is, especially with its first 3 tracks (More Than a Feeling, Peace of Mind, and Foreplay/Long Time), it quickly cemented them into classic rock royalty and those songs are still being played today like with many others. Heck, even as an audio engineer, I even got to mix More Than a Feeling for myself after finding the multitracks to this song online and I got to hear so many hidden elements that I never knew were there, such as a clean guitar doubling the acoustic during the verses and Brad Delp singing along to that pre-chorus guitar lick, which I was able to bring out in my mix. Not to mention... hearing Delp's isolated vocals was simply INCREDIBLE... definitely an experience I'll never forget. If you guys want to, check out Rick Beato's "What Makes This Song Great?" video on this song. I promise you that you WILL NOT REGRET IT.

Boston's self-titled is easily my favorite debut album as it's also my favorite album of all time. It's an album I see as a gamechanger for what rock was going to sound like going forward. It pushed the envelope of what rock was like in the first half of the 70's and it set the standard for the kind of big production that so many bands would shoot for. Not to mention, it was mostly self-produced by guitarist Tom Scholz in his basement, allegedly in an area of Massachusetts I might or might not have grown up in. "Hitch a Ride" is also a perfect song in my book.

An interesting video I feel that could be fun to do, would be bands with family in the industry that are worth looking at, that overcame the shadow cast. The person that randomly came to my mind that showed that would be interesting was Jakob Dylan in The Wallflowers. Side note, I forgot about their cover of I Started A Joke, that I feel is often overlooked in amazing covers. Another person/band that comes to mind, would also be Powerman 5000. But yeah, I feel this could be a fun time making that video. And could be fun having people start to connect dots of bands that are literally related to others.

I'll also note, I heard Van Halen I for the first time a few weeks ago, as I'm trying to listen to more albums that are new to me and oh MAN did that album live up to the hype! Sadly, I didn't feel the same way about Hybrid Theory. Though I might have felt the same had I heard it in it's entirety when it was new instead of when I was fresh in my 30s, years after it was all said and done, with half the album having been memed to death and after having heard works like Night At The Opera and such. I need to give Meteora a listen. I think I might gravitate more towards that between the two.

Although they never came commercially as any of these bands, Beautiful Creatures self titled debut was another great debut. Joe LeSté,DJ Ashba, and company rocked out from beginning to end. No mixture of NuMetal and Grunge, just a straight ahead,in your face Hard Rock album. Something music fans had been missing for about a decade.

While Meteora is my personal favorite Linkin Park album, there’s no denying the importance of Hybrid Theory. We were introduced to one of the greatest bands of all time and they are the definition of 2000s rock and nu metal

It's difficult to fill all of the great debuts, but some other great ones worth mentioning that I enjoy (some of which are moreso on the metal or prog side or would be discounted to the rules stated in the video): Boston's Boston King Crimson's In the Court of the Crimson King Oasis's Definitely Maybe The Strokes' Is This It Interpol's Turn On the Bright Lights Yeah Yeah Yeah's Fever to Tell Emerson Lake and Palmer's Self Titled The Mars Volta's Deloused in the Comatorium Weezer's Blue Album Garbage's Garbage Alice In Chains' Facelift Budgie's Budgie (obscure album but one I really enjoy. Most of this band's stuff isn't available to stream, so that's one downside). Black Crowes' Shake Your Money Maker Lynyrd Skynyrd's Pronounced (might get some flack for picking but I still enjoy it) Gentle Giant's Gentle Giant (somewhat obscure prog band but worth giving a chance) Plenty of others but this is long enough as is and many other people have mentioned some of the ones I left out in the comments.

My mom played Hot Fuss so often throughout my childhood that every song became so ingrained into my head throughout the years, but recently I actually kinda dissected the album heavily and it's so interesting. They were so unique for the time, and became so influential for the world of rock and alternative, even today.

In my opinion, Appetite for Destruction is the best album ever, so it isn't even close in the competition for best debut album. Even third rate songs on the album like Think About You are amazing songs and every member of the band was playing their roles perfectly.

I remember getting a sampler cd at ozzfest 2000 where there was a demo of linkin park back when they were called hybrid theory (or at least that was the bands name on the sampler) Back then i was going through a huge rap nu metal hate fest thanks to limp bizkit, but i considered the debut a guilty pleasure till i saw everyone else loving it! Kinda like “oh…. Its cool to like this even though its rap nu metal? Cool!!!” Saw them the following year at ozzfest 2001! Also my first experience with SOAD was the bruce willis Video game apocalypse!

I think this video deserves part 2. There are more than just 10 great debut albums. Maybe not every single one was a game changer like VH's debut but they deserve to be mentioned. In my list, I would definitely go with The Darkness - Permission to Land (2003). I would rate it even higher than Appetite for Destruction, it is a solid #1 for me. The Darkness was really something back in the day. Another ones to pop in my head are Wolfmother's debut album and, of course, Led Zeppelin 1. Arguably, I'd include Queensrÿche's Warning, Diamond Head's Lightning to the Nations, Judas Priest's Rocka Rolla and Skid Row's debut album but I don't think they should be in the list because it's something closer to metal, probably. That's why I also think SOAD, LP and RATM shouldn't be on the list as well. It is really strange to have RATM near Jimmy Hendrix, though their album is a masterpiece.

Just putting it out there but the Cars' debut album produced two Top 40 hits in an era when few new rock groups were making much of an impression at "pop" radio ("Just What I Needed" peaked at #27, "My Best Friend's Girl" peaked at #35) while rock-oriented FM radio stations that played directly from albums rather than singles were playing pretty much every single song from the album, with "Good Times Roll," "Moving in Stereo," "You're All I've Got Tonight" and "Bye Bye Love" dominating playlists. Only 1984's "Heartbeat City" comes close in terms of producing well-loved and well-known songs (and, for the most part, even rock radio stations didn't really delve as deeply into playing the whole album the way they had with "The Cars"). And, if we want to venture beyond the "boys' club" of rock, there's the Pretenders' self-titled debut, Tracey Chapman's self-titled debut and Tori Amos's "Little Earthquakes" (Tori's might be cheating a bit since she'd done an album as part of a short-lived group, Y Kant Tori Read). Oh, and Pat Benatar's debut, "In the Heat of the Night" (it's a great album, only overshadowed by its follow-up "Crimes of Passion").

I was a 14 year old freshman in high school in 1991. I still vividly remember hearing Even Flow on the radio and talking my mom into bringing me to Walmart the next day and buying the album. By the time I got to the end of side 2 of that cassette, I said out loud to my empty room "This is who I am now" and immediately flipped it over and restarted the cassette. Shortly thereafter I dumped all the stuff I was listening to before that and have never really revisited it in the years since. Every music fan has THAT moment that makes them fall in love with music on a whole other level, listening to Ten was mine. So yeah, I agree with your placement 🙂
