Flash back - I (Indonesian) remember when I was a kid living in Bethlehem - Pennsylvania (1956 - 1959) for my Dad was persuing his PhD at Lehigh University ... In 1958 in Holiday Season we made a trip to New York City to visit our family friend and then we did horsing around Radio City, United Nations building, Rockefeller Center etc. My Dad took my picture in front of the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree ... It was fun ... Now I'm already 68 yrs old and never forget that moment 😁😁😁 I had been in The States twice ... But in the second time (1991 - 1994) when my husband was persuing his PhD at Texas A&M University we didn't have time to visit Rockefeller Center in Holiday Season, we were able to visit New York City in Summer 😁😁😁 Btw ... my mom (now 95 yrs old) still has that photo ❤️❤️❤️

I can’t believe we still are willing to sacrifice a beautiful tree for a couple of days of pleasure. An amazing living tree that took years to grow and how fast we jut cut it, Lightning it and in a month it will be dry and dead. We really need to reassess our traditions.
@nelidapadilla3567 Жыл бұрын
There is a whole lot of good that comes out of this tradition. Once the holiday is over, the tree is cut down and the wood is donated to Habitat For Humanity, who construct homes for the less fortunate.

This tree was in our family. For the last 22+ years, a developer has been sitting on this land along with neighboring properties to develop as a strip mall. He already tore down the perfectly good house and barn more than a decade ago. The only place that tree was going was an anonymous death in a chipper on site. Now at least it can give joy not just to millions for the holiday, but Habitat homeowners. It's great wood, so in addition to framing they usually try to use it for built in and/or furniture. And every piece is branded with a special Rockefeller / Habitat brand, so the family (and whoever gets the house next) will always know and remember. Way better than being cleared for a strip mall.

90yrs old ???? Definitely not worth it and such a waste. Human greed at its worst. Sad.
@SuzanneBlanchard Жыл бұрын
90 is just mature. They can live to a thousand years old. But this one wouldn't, because my aunt & uncle sold it to a developer who plans a strip mall there in the near future. When Erik Pauze contacted him, he had no idea what they were talking about, because he has absolutely no relationship to the tree. It would have just been cut down and chipped on site.
@N5692233 Жыл бұрын
@@SuzanneBlanchard Why do they need to cut it down at all?? It’s been here almost a century! Why can’t they just leave it alone??? This is just plain greed

Jeremiah Chapter 10: 3For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. 4They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. 5They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good. 6Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O LORD; thou art great, and thy name is great in might. 7Who would not fear thee, O King of nations? for to thee doth it appertain: forasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like unto thee. 8But they are altogether brutish and foolish: the stock is a doctrine of vanities.
