This album is one of Kanye's most experimental projects not in that it sounds left field or avant-garde but because it is a sound that had never been done before similar to 808s. Kid Cudi and Ye tasked themselves to do an album about mental health for the kids inspired by rock and psychedelic music. Btw Cudi Montage is a Nirvana Sample Cudi's favourite group, thats why hes marked as a producer even though he usually doesn't produce.

touching up on Free (Ghost town pt 2), I know you said like "Oh we already heard this in the other context", i think what makes this a stark contrast to the original is how it's the flipside of the coin of this dangerous thinking. Ghost Town pt 1 is such a beautiful uplifiting song about letting go so much that you feel literally invincible, you're not letting anyone bother you anymore, your choosing to free yourself from all of the things weighing you down... however I think pt 2 is the flipside of that, and how dangerous that thinking actually is. It has a very... almost creepy vibe to it in this version, more disorienting with the aggressive almost detuned distorted guitar in the instrumental. When you feel like that, you can get yourself killed... it's a very dangerous state of mind to be in, to think your unstoppable, when youre definitely not. I always call this song the moment after you actually put your hand on the stove... it's self destructive and will get you to horrible places if not careful. Anyways, yeah just thought I would add that, because I think thats my favorite thing about the song :)

The title is really beautiful. Kanye and Cudi see themselves as kids, as vessels of purity and innocence, something that all kids are. But, as innocent as they are, they go through life facing hardships (such as depression, anxiety, loss of faith), that is, ghosts. So, what I get from the title is people are all innocent, but only some choose to hold onto that purity and innocence as they are faced with hardships in life. This album is the two regaining their innocence through transformation and healing. This album to me is more about what it makes me feel than what the lyrics say. Which is why I think it connects to many.
