Nicki was huge to the culture for women. She paved the way for Cardi B, Meg and alllll the new fame rap artists. She wasn’t the first but she was the biggest, as well as her performing in animated voices here and there was *different* for the time
@YerpDerp172 жыл бұрын
Foxy Brown, Queen Latifah, Lil Kim, Eve and many others are just as much influential as Nicki. Lil Kim crawled so Meghan and Nicki could run. lol And yes, she is the biggest, but hip hop is WAY more mainstream and popular than it was during the artists I mentioned. She deserves all the respect, but don't forget about the ones who paved the way for her. Mixtape Nicki is almost unmatched, and its crazy that when she came out and linked with Lil Wayne and Drake while they were all in their prime.

From the greatness of this album, as well as her others, you can see that most of the Nicki hate is rooted in ignorance and misogyny. But even then, everyone can agree she’s the greatest woman to do what she does. Jay Z, Kanye, Lil Wayne, & Foxy Brown are just a few of the legends that have openly agreed to her being the best. She’s one of a kind and has earned her respect
@bobthepoppop2 жыл бұрын
I'm hoping it's more from ignorance. My mindset coming into this-what I thought of when I thought of Nicki-was her shaking her ass and songs about sex. That was a big part of what I thought she was. I'm assuming that's the case for many others who haven't taken the time to listen to her music. And it's a shame because she is SO much more than that.
@jajuanmalektv27182 жыл бұрын
@@bobthepoppop So true man. When you get around to her 2010 debut album “Pink Friday”, you’ll see that in that album she never mentioned sex. Not even once. That album was also amazing, and it has the greatest features on it. It sold 375,000 units in the first week (the highest first week sales for a debut album by any female rapper). I’m glad to see more people are doing deep dives into Nicki’s discography

See the thing is I feel like music has such a broad spectrum especially in rap when those women you just named all have different flows and styles when it comes to rap they each have paved their own section in rap which we don’t see anymore nowadays, everybody is kind of the same generic rapper so I could never put missy, Lauren, sims and Nicki over one another because they all have different styles of rap. so it really just depends on the person and what rap they are looking for. Or love to listen to.

Some fun context around "Only" for you Bob, Drake & Chris Brown had a beef for the longest time (with the most notable event being a situation where they're camps started throwing bottles at each other in the club and nearly got into a melee) and "Only" was the first time we had ever heard them on the same song together so it was pretty wild at the time. Also, Lil Wayne is the one who signed both Drake & Nikki and is of course a legend so the song overall was a pretty big deal. Drake & CB have since patched things up and even collab on the 2019 smash hit "No Guidance". Also at 44:22 you're right, MetroBoomin is best known for working with both Future & 21 Savage (Future is the one that does his "If young Metro don't trust you..." producer tag). Zaytoven is famous for being Gucci Mane's main producer for the longest time.

So happy you reacted to the album. Trini Dem Girls and Get On Your Knees are two of my favorites, All Things Go is super emotional and Grand Piano is amazing vocally, her most passionately sung song. Pink Friday and Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded are really arguably just as great, they have a lot more of the wild Monster verse type of energy. When it comes to her place in hip hop, yeah she is definitely a really important figure. She is super influential to a whole generation of female rappers that came after her, and some people just don’t like to give sexuality-embracing women their props, or they don’t like “bad bitch” music because they’re scared of being girly. Also on your mention of her being Jamaican, she’s Caribbean but not Jamaican - she’s from Trinidad hence the name Trini Dem Girls. That track is more dancehall inspired, a genre more popular in trinidad and other countries in the west indies

And now paved the way for all female rappers after her. Also some facts nicki is the 3rd best selling rapper of all time worldwide after eminem and drake which is crazy for a female in a man dominated genre. And she also fought for streaming rights which opened the streaming era so that streaming could count for sales which alot of people dont know of which changed the whole indusrty forever. I'm not a Drake fan but this was one of his best verses. The best thing Lil Wayne ever did was sign Nicki and Drake to his Young Money label. They also have a Young Money album. Nicki held the crown for 10yrs. No other female rapper came close. I think a lot of Hip-Hop heads weren't feeling this album because she didn't rap as much as she did on the first album. I like this. The picture people paint about Nicki Minaj is sad because she’s really talented and has good music. She’s not the Queen of Rap for no reason. You should definitely do Pink Friday as well if you would like to react to some more of her stuff. It’s really good. 🙏🏾

thank you for taking your time to understand the queen. im glad at the fact that you acknowledge that some people hear her name and immediately go off others opinions or what they heard of her in the media but you erased all of that when u decided to listen and get into it yourself. we spoke highly of you on Barb radio and I personally really enjoyed your opinions in this video. Im glad u enjoyed the album.

nicki got a lot of respect bcs female rap wasn’t taken seriously before but nicki was up there that she was seen equal as the male rap, the reason why female rappers start getting featured in male rap, she just opened opportunities for female rap

I'm a really big Nicki fan. I'm not sure why exactly, maybe it was the era it come out of.... but "The Night is Young" literally makes me smile, laugh out loud, and reach my hands up in the air as if I have no problems at all. Isn't is crazy how you look back at a time and you don't realize how amazing it was until it was about 6 years too late? I just wanted you to know I really enjoyed this, and it made me REALLY fucking happy. Thank you for the video

If you want a more rap centered Nicki Minaj album, I recommend you check out her 2018 Queen album. In my personal opinion it is her best album to date, with the second being Pink Friday.

bro Nicki just gets better with time, she so smart with her albums. First album showed her skills and is a true classic album, second album was experimental (and we all kn it can be a hit or miss for some artist) but she gained several hits, third album by now she skating, nothing could stop her growth and sharpened skill was in full display and Queen was a reminder for the people who we're ignorant and dense, This next album honestly the impact might be something else, im ready.

When she signed to Young Money/Cash Money/Republic it was a HUGE deal because female hip-hop was dead.The staples either pivoting or not being supported by fans and labels did not want to invest in women rappers. The odds were stacked against her and she came out swinging, built a huge buzz, then was able to get a favorable record deal because she could negotiate from a place of power. She also layed out the blue print for how to brand yourself and get yourself major mainstream appeal. She was the one make MAC collaborations, perfumes, clothing line collaborations, etc. on top of having to deal with the backlash from the hip-hop community for doing pop sounding music like Starships. She was the one that fought for streaming to be considered more heavily when it comes to charts. Now the new girls don't have to get into those fights. The labels are willing to sign them because they know a woman can make money in hip-hop. The girls can do pop tracks with no push back. They can get all the mainstream endorsement deals because there's evidence with Nicki that they are able to generate money. Mind you she's also influenced so many of the new girls coming up so it's actually disrespectful for anyone to minimize her influence. I love Missy, Latifah, and Lauryn but everyone born post '97 has to admit who they were listening to growing up and it was mainly Nicki. Giving her flowers doesn't mean that other female MCs do not have a legacy or impact. There's enough flowers to pass around.

Actually the four door aventador was more about her flow she was channeling biggie smalls and it was a good transition a ride to the other half of album / "Favorite" when you said there was a back and forth between agressive production and the beat falling back it is like a conversation between Nicki and Jeremiah who wants to be her man in the song, so she's being assertive about what she wants in a man and then Jeremiah is like begging her to be her favorite that's why there's this switching up in the beat
