Scientists are working on jet packs or rocket belts as a means of futuristic transportation, and you might be surprised to learn about the fuel. Our science guy Steve Spangler has a special student guest from Littleton High School to explore the science of this rocket fuel.

I see no one in the comments is acknowledging the fact that we seen someone step out of that garage door to the brick building and just coast on up above the ground about 20’ like it’s cool and sail right back in with a perfect landing.

@parthagrawal6171
@parthagrawal6171 3 жыл бұрын
@@deeperlayer The free oxygen radical will rapidly bind to another oxygen radical to form O2 which is the gas being released. The oxygen radical is very unstable compared to the dioxygen molecule. While at the single molecule level it does break down into water and a free oxygen radical, in a larger homogenous solution of peroxides like the one shown it’s better to say that we form O2 and 2 H2O from 2 molecules of H2O2

Does it have any thrust though

@Ruben75today 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, but in order to have usable thrust, you need to have a much higher rate of reaction going on. Which is achieved by decomposing lots of H2O2 and accelerating it through a proper sized nozzle. It also depends on the use of the engine. For satellites or other objects that only have to make minor adjustments, this is very useful.

Potassium permanganate is a much better catalyst for cleanish hypergolic rockets. Unfortunately it would paint everything purple and brown. Depending on how well its mixed
@asandax6
@asandax6 Жыл бұрын
Or silver. It's expensive but much better as a catalyst as it's solid and not a powder that'll mix with released steam.

But why not pump the byproduct into an engine and add fuel like acetone. It would at least quadruple the energy out put. And all u would do to is ignite it. After ignition u could vary each ingredient to make different amounts of power. And u would completely burn each fuel. The byproducts would be little.
@TheFireGoose
@TheFireGoose 2 жыл бұрын
I see what you mean, the only problem is that hydrogen peroxide + acetone makes TATP, a highly unstable spooky and angry explosive. Granted I don’t thing it would detonate if it was wet like in a fuel mix but still.

NOTICE they will NOT divulge the secret to do this, nor the logic that create PROPER propulsion for cars to ELIMINATE gasoline! And the clean exhaust it causes . They ASPIN IT like a toy 6th grade school experiment. Yet the guy none put this in a motorbike then went 205MPH in 5.56 seconds 1/4 mile. SO this is 100% leasable to put into a ca to make it run on. r.

What's wrong with the old school hydrazine and an oxidizer (nitrogen). You get a lot of energy out of that reaction lol
@matthewstorm5188
@matthewstorm5188 2 жыл бұрын
Hydrazine is both highly toxic and highly explosive. Not the stuff you want to play around with. As far as nitrogen, it is not an effective oxidizer.
