I had a Rocket III Touring bike and they’re detuned (horsepower wise) from the original Rocket, but maintain hefty torque. Where they shine is in their ability to go up and down hills with little or no throttle increase and still maintain a constant speed. They’re very good at pulling small trailers and can be loaded down with a lot of travel gear. The Touring model isn’t a race bike. I’d doubt it’d keep up with a lot of smaller cruisers, but that’s not what it was made for. They’re big, heavy, comfortable bikes not as susceptible to wind as the smaller, lighter bike are. Comfortable 500+ mile trips are their intended purpose.

One of the few times I can say I rode both. I own a Rocket III touring and rode a friends Vulcan S. Vulcan S is so light and nimble, it's a treat in the city, and is geared quite steep so it performs quite well. Not so much of a treat on the highway tho, where the Rocket really comes into its own. Nice thing with the Rocket is with a $30 usb cable, an ECU flash gives 30 more HP, and it really wakes up past 4000rpm. It's kind of a 'must do' thing with the Touring. It would be sweet to see a before and after comparison.

I own a Vulcan S and I love everything about it, from performance, to handling to braking (even on the non ABS model) Probably the best beginner cruiser going. That being said, The Vulcan S can't hold a candle to the rocket III at any RPM.... The rocket III is a low-mid 11 second bike @ 120MPH and makes gobs more torque and power at all RPM. I'm lucky when I hit high 12 seconds @ 98MPH on my Vulcan S. It's a quick cruiser that eats up stock Harley's with a peanut sized 650cc, that's all I ask of it, and that's all anybody should expect.

Should do a 4 way of Kawasaki 650s. Vulcan, Ninja, Z and Versys. My prediction will be. Vulcan, quickest off the line (longest wheelbase), Z quickest accelerating overall (lightest), Ninja highest top speed (best aerodynamics and top end power), Versys best cornering (best suspension by a mile).
@mr37483 жыл бұрын
That should be interesting. I bought a versys 650 in 2020 and I corner it flat through the mountain passes. So it does corner good and grips good, but with its higher center of gravity you have to be awake when transitioning between corners. But they are good bikes and a lot of fun.

It's an apples/ oranges comparison. The Rocket 3 tourer is rated at 105hp/150ft.lb. of torque. The Rocket 3 Roadster (vintage) is 145hp/145ft.lb. ( the new ones are much more powerful.) The wt to power ratio, as well as the trans gear ratios favored the Kawasaki. The Rocket Roadster would eat it's lunch, and the Rocket tourer is one of the best touring rigs going. 700-1000 mile days are fairly easy with it.
@amamsurri54544 жыл бұрын
Vulcan S power-band doesn't even start until 6500. it has a fairly linear torque figure though so that's sweet
@bmfilmnut4 жыл бұрын
The Rocket III Touring in this video is NOT 800 pounds. If you're going to mention specs, you should get the correct numbers. You owe that to viewers. The early versions were reported to be 869 lbs (wet) but accessories were added to later versions like the one in this video that brought them up to 906 pounds. Those added accessories were the crash bar, sissy bar/passenger backrest, and the running lights. However, this bike has the extra riders backrest so it would weigh even more than 906 pounds. For some reason, most sources of specs for the R3T report the original weight and they often report that the bike is even lighter than the original weight of 869 pounds. I'm not sure where you got a figure of 800 pounds. With this bike, your off by probably 120 pounds or so. One other thing: The R3T in this video must have needed a tune-up or something was wrong because acceleration should have been much greater. A R3T running right will practically rip your arms out of their sockets with it's incredible low-end torque about 155 ft/lbs at 2000 rpm! It has more torque at an idle than most other bikes have full out at their peak torque. I know because have one and I can guarantee you that I could have blown that 650 off the road. Seriously! It leaves just about any bike with the exception of hot sport bikes far in the rear view mirror almost instantly. I couldn't believe how slow acceleration was in this video. Either something was wrong with the bike or the rider was afraid to open up the throttle.

The difference is the rotation that will decide in the future which bike will last longer (more rotation, clear to more power per cubic inches, equals more heat and friction). For a small engine to be able to compete with a large one in terms of performance it has to have lower crank stroke, higher compression ratio, higher degree of command, and thus a higher number of combustions. Of course, if you can keep your rpm low on a smaller-displacement motorcycle, it will be economical, but when you accelerate and even ride a 600cc bike needs twice as much rpm as a 1200cc motorcycle, you will in most cases be consuming the same thing as the big bike. Nothing against small motorcycles, they are usually easy to drive.

Lab Insight yes your right the rocket tour is a lot less power than the rocket roadster. About 40hp less

You had another Rocket 3 back in the summer against the Valkyrie I believe. Now that was kick ass.

Greg Thompson great idea or a Vtx 1800 or a Valkyrie. We need to take that bike up against the other big dogs

Could the Vulcan S keep up with the m109?
@HumGuitar6 жыл бұрын
Would you have to try hard to do a wheelie on the Vulcan? I don't want a bike that is going to pop a wheelie when I'm just trying to excelerate fast. I don't want something that is going to jump out from under me.
@chasdgreen6 жыл бұрын
Mine doesn't even go light on the front end under acceleration. I've seen videos of the Vulcan S with the front wheel in the air, bit I don't think you'll ever do it accidentally.

i wish the vulcan looked better, i'm looking for a small to medium crusier and even knowing that the vulcan is the best, im never getting one because i looks like it doesnt know what type of bike it is.

I suspect at highway speeds the Triumph will pull away from the Vulcan quickly. The Vulcan is geared really low, and the Rocket is geared tall AF.
