In 1994 my grandmother passed. On the way to the wake from her funeral, this song was on the radio in the car. I’ve always associated it with memories of her. This morning, one of her daughters, my aunt, passed away in hospice after a long battle with dementia. To have this show up in my feed as the new video from Kent this afternoon just… *sigh*. Sometimes the universe does timing in a really incredible way. Anyway, thanks Kent, for another beautiful cover. I’m listening with tears in my eyes and a lot of love in my heart.

I feel Kent’s willingness to let the original version rest within his interpretation is so refreshing. There are dozens, nay hundreds of very skilled, technical fingerstyle players out there in KZbin land but most of them seem to be determined to beat the guitar to death or employ some quirky tricks to make their playing “unique.” Kent’s “uniqueness” lies within his mature and tasteful restraint in order to pay homage to the recognizable original. His attention to the details of melody, harmony, rhythm and dynamics set him apart from most other players I’ve heard in the last 5 to 10 years. Having said that, I’m a lifelong Chet fan. Also Tommy Emanuel, Joe Robinson, Leo Kottke, Doyle Dykes, Andy McKee, Mike Dawes, etc. Kent’s playing just touches me for its completeness. We’ll done once again, young man!

@@cmdrvarna You're right. I am sure that you calmly pointed one of the most important things about Kent's guitar style and his music. I have all of Luca Stricagnoli's albums and like them all. But, in my opinion, Listening each and every song Kent arranged and performed on KZbin videos, we can relax with it and it makes us happy. In other words, we can enjoy them all in 120%. But I can't satisfied with Luca's guitar music in that way, although it goes without saying that Luca's performance is amazing.

I normally don't listen to covers, specially of legendary songs such as this because they're not usually that good but, from time to time I discover that "rare talent" coupled with a finesse of touch, timing and expression from only "those" who can make their instrument sing and come "alive" such as this young Artist. It's not enough to 'know' the chords and learn the Riffs or drag your fingers all over the place to let us know how fast you are or how loud you can scream the music. Music is about "expression & tone". I happen to have such a delicate, sensitive and receptive sense of musical hearing, that I can detect variations of harmony, tonality and also, of distortion not common even in seasoned musicians, (not bragging, I was born with an extremely discriminating musical palette and a deep sense of musical hearing) that most of the music I hear today, doesn't appeal to my senses. I might sound "pompous" to you and most but that is the way my gift (or curse) came with me. I'm a Latin Jazz musician and play a variety of styles, from Salsa to classical, flamenco, Jazz fusion, Peruvian Negroid music and others since the age of 9 and all my life I've been involved with music dating from the 1600's until todays and I can recognize talent when I hear it. This Kid has it. When you hear a musical rendition of this caliber, the music goes from your ears to the underneath of your skin. A very magnificent interpretation. Just one detail, because you're using high end recording mics and pickups, try not to "slap" the rhythm on the guitar body too hard because it "numbs" the flow of the melody. and "Thumps" the bass into the ear which is not enjoyable. Keep up the great work. I'll be looking forward to sample your magnificent recordings and Thank you for letting us enjoy your very special Art. Phoenix in L.A.

I'm always in awe when a new recording comes out. It's the arrangements and unique tunings. He captures so much more of the song by being unbound by conventional thought. The complexity of hearing what he wants to convey then creating an arrangement along with a specific tuning that allow him to be so expressive is beyond parallel. Quantity does not necessarily means quality, but it also takes a lot of talent to upload almost 1,300 videos to KZbin (24 years old) of which almost 70 are songs composed by him self (Sungha Jung). About 4,5 days average for each song, during 16 years.
