Full Metal Critic it’s the first major studio film to depict a male gay sex scene on screen. So so so many films have straight sex scenes and it shouldn’t have taken this long for a gay couple to also have a sex scene. It won’t be as important for straight people, but in a time where homosexuality is punishable by death in some countries, it can help remind us that being gay is nothing to be ashamed of.

But for someone gay-- and especially someone not accepting their sexuality-- it is a very freeing feeling... an awakening of one's self. It's not just a sex scene, it's a pivotal moment in Elton's life. In short, it was realistically AND artistically a turning point for him. So it was very important.

My beloved wife gave me the movie Rocketman as one of my Christmas presents this year. I got very emotional because I’m a huge fan of Elton John (in a healthy way). The movie was simply marvelous from beginning to end.
