I just brought an outback with a Garmin and it has the transducer mounted inside the hull with silicon. Haven’t tried it yet but seen it done before. Will be interested to see how it works

Hello Lee. The internal transducer mounted into a bed of silicon is a tried and tested method used by many over the years. It can and does work quite well, but it also has some inherent problems. If at the time of install there were bubbles in the silicon, that can interfere with the transducer signal and you won't get a good reading on your sounder. Another issue can be that the silicon will eventually come away from the hull and you will need to re-install. I have used this method before with varying success, I hope it works well for you.
