Alot of standing the middle of the open and a lack of urgency mostly on the GI side in my opinion. In a realistic scenario everyone would be behind cover and moving fast from cover to cover, not walking. Also if a German tank was right front of you, I'm sure soldiers would have shown alot more urgency to get out of its field of fire.

I've heard it be referred to as "G.I. syndrome", when they are less willing to die and/or stand out in the open like that.

Hi! So I was there reenacting, my family has the Mowry Brown house next to the 101st airborne house. The women’s display. I’m from Wisconsin and next year, I’ll be joining 2nd ID as a medic. If you would be willing to get in contact with me and answer some questions I have, that would be really cool. Maybe I’ll see you next year! Thanks!

Is...is that who I think it is at the far left at 0:02 in the blue Luftwaffe (Fallschirmjäger?) uniform? Edit: nvm, I guess it's not. He apparently passed away in March according to one of the replies. The guy in the video is probably another reenactor. Rest easy soldier, you've done your time in hell.

Looks like the same old battle and the same old problems - nothing getting better at WW2 Days...too many vehicles, too many reenactors, firing too close to the crowd creating permanent hearing damage to spectators, unrealistic running about, the Germans 'surrendering' and those damn gas guns rattling on constantly. You'd think after all this time the event would have matured but I guess not.....this could be a great way to honor our veterans and give the visitors some real appreciation of the Second World War but it's still the same old farbfest 'shoot 'em up'. 25 years and it's still the same thing over and over and over. Thanks to Heinz, however for posting this video. Good to see it wasnt worth the trip this year.

I appreciate all efforts of Rockford’s WWII re-enactors & displays representing WWII home front, European battles, including Asiatic theater. No recreation is going to be perfect but feel Rockford does an outstanding condensed simulated version of western front battle. In reference to your mentioned spectator hearing permanent damage-either bring protection or buy some-they sell right on grounds! Also, sold at many stores or God gave most two hands, cover your ears! Rockford seems to fill up the park with both reenactors & spectators and I hope they do for years to come, preserving the GREATEST generation and their sacrifice. God bless America 🙏🇺🇸

As someone who's been reenacting at Rockford for over a decade, the first poster is right. This field battle devolves into a Jeep rodeo every year. It's handed off to the same people with lazy "cowboys and Indians" mentality. The fact that a dozen jeeps push ahead into tank and armored car fire is just cartoonish. We usually skip the battles but we did this morning one and it was a reminder why we usually opt for smaller town battles or skits and talking to the public.

@@flamingogirl4879 Penny - you're certainly entitled to enjoy what's going on at this event. You're just simply not understanding my comments and the excuses you're making are part of why this event is the same every year....because the people who organize it think its fine the way it is and don't care to listen to anyone who makes valid criticisms. Also, expecting the visitors to be aware of the risk to their hearing is callus and cruel. Many people who attend this event for the first time are in no way aware of the noise hazard, especially children. We reenactors, however, are very aware of the noise hazard and out of respect for the people who pay hard earned money come to see us, we could, at the very least, help them by not setting off firearms a few feet from their ears.
@peterhuber17023 жыл бұрын
@@phantom12321800 Thank you for your comment - Im very glad to hear from someone who sees this event the same way - I think maybe a vehicle parade would be a better activity for the 'jeep rodeo' (good term) types and having some different people organizing the event - that's the deeper issue you understand well.
@phantom123218003 жыл бұрын
@@AfrikaKorp42 i disagree. With even a little coordination it could be so much better than it is. Instead the jeep drivers act like they're on rascal scooters firing over their steering wheels
