Another great video! You were pulling so many bricks up...you could build another house with them! Wonder what other buried wonders are on that property! Mini excavator you say....Go big!!! I agree if you can do it...buy your equipment...you could always rent it out later if you find yourself not using it!! Though I would not want other people playing on my stuff!!

I wonder if installing a french drain next to the hut with a gravel fill on top would take care of a lot of the water issues? Keep up the great videos 🙂

Nice job tag teaming! Looks like a lot of clay so runoff should be pretty quick, eh? I still say you should name the skid-steer 'WALL-E'... lol Always enjoy seeing what you are up to so thanks for sharing!

I appreciate your video for explaining grading. Thank you! What I am seeking is a video that explains how to remove high ground from a yard. My yard has a distinct crown (side and front are much lower than the middle). I am told that the previous owners caused this by continuing to pile layer after layer of sod over a several year period, because grass was not growing well and their solution was to keep adding more sod. The net result: if you are standing in the street, facing the house, you can see the sides of the yard are at grade with the flanking driveways, and the middle of the yard, side to side, is nearly a foot higher than the sides. Not only does this look terrible, it is probably preventing proper growth of a seeded lawn. Thus: how do I use a skid steer to remove this crown from the middle of the front lawn? Have you made such a video, or have you seen a video such as this to which you can share the link? I have basic skills (have used a bobcat, previously). Ergo, my questions is about strategy. This is too much soil to remove by hand rake. I am guessing I will ultimately need to level down (move around) at least three or four yards of soil). Thank you, in advance, to anyone who can assist me with this!

How stable is your skidloader on side hills? If it is sufficiently stable, you could use it to transfer the grade you already cut in the hill. Just drive parallel to the hut and cut the grade you've already established. I do just that with my tractor wherever the grade is shallow enough for me to sidehill safely. It actually works fairly well. I'm jealous of your skidloader!

I think the machine is stable enough to do exactly that. It’s my confidence that is unstable… Probably what I will end up doing though

Skid steers seems to excel where you need to skim layers off to have a level grade. Hopefully you can figure it out and finish with the SS, but agree that a mini would be the better machine. Too bad we all can't have one of each, right?

If you get a mini excavator get it with a grading bucket. If you have can get that maybe a tilting thing would be great.

Thanks for the advice. I’ve been watching a lot of Excavating videos and those grading buckets can really be effective if you know what you’re doing
@billfenner7084
@billfenner7084 2 жыл бұрын
@@RockhillfarmYT Exactly. You're taking a little bit more than the regular digging bucket. The flat bottom makes it a little bit more smoother than the other buckets do. If you had the tilting attachment you could use it for the correct slope.

I'd just live with it awhile. You may need another machine out there for something else in the future.

@@RockhillfarmYT So maybe an offset flail mower to mow there. Plus could use that in other places. Cheaper than an excavator. But I have been watching your videos since you first had the 2038 tractor. And I think you are really wanting an excavator though. More power to you. Great video as always.

Yeah, I want one because who doesn’t but right now I’m trying to make sure I can actually afford the skid loader. I may have a flail mower before long though.

I am a bit confused! It appears what you have done so far looks fine. Why not just continue doing it the way you have so far?
@RockhillfarmYT
@RockhillfarmYT 2 жыл бұрын
That might be how it gets finished. I’m a little bit intimidated taking the skid loader on the side hill next to the Quonset Hut. In the other directions I’m running out of room to slope it back because my shop is right there.

I would expect your track loader to be plenty stable enough to handle side-hilling next to the Quonset Hut, just start out near the top of the hill, on the area you already worked, then cut out that "more dramatic" slope transition you have along the top of the hill. Since you won't have to raise the bucket much other than curling it back and raising it just off the ground to carry away your spoils, you won't get tipsy like you might if you raised it really high to dump the bucket. Looking good though!!
@RockhillfarmYT
@RockhillfarmYT 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that seems like the best plan. I think it would work but I didn’t feel very stable on the hill. Probably something you just have to do it and get used to

@@RockhillfarmYT Just give it time then, and find "less steep" hillsides to get more comfortable with. It's your rear in the seat so you have a better feel for it than I do sitting in my comfy chair here (plus slopes don't always show up well enough on camera to do them justice, so listen to yourself and your comfort with what you are going to do, or not do!!) Read all the above as just encouragement to keep doing what your doing!!
