After a bunch of rain we take to the creeks to see what the waters have unearthed. Carnelian agates, blue chalcedony, and many more treasure along the way.
in order to create this video i would like to show super appreciation to the artists behind these beautiful pieces of music, and thank them for creating tracks for us all to enjoy.

Back with its owners. So we left him at the local store because they said they had seen the doggo before and that the owners were in the area. The owners saw the pup that afternoon and took him home. He had been missing for a couple of days!

Rock hounding is a beautiful addiction. There's something special about harvesting fat hunks of glimmering quartz and other curiosities from gurgling stream beds that no one would have ever seen if not for you.

Well put. The addiction part is also a great way to get people out into the wilderness again, which is always the real treasure no matter what you're doing in it. We've lost that, and it's bad for everyone because man was born there and was never really meant to leave. He was given heaven and everything he needed to enrich his soul, and he traded it for a gizmo with lights in it that causes cancer in laboratory animals and a factory hardhat. He's been miserable ever since, and when he hangs that hardhat on the nail at the end of the day, he has the audacity to look for heaven in the sky. Thoreau said "simplicity, simplicity, simplicity", and he was right. Me, I just say "go rock hounding".

With respect... what is this stone worth per carat?
@Rookie_Rockounding
@Rookie_Rockounding 5 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question, but I can’t honestly say. It’s probably not a stone that has a carat worth that is the same for each piece like a diamond does. It’s more about what can be done with it and the quality of the stone as in if it’s fractured or unique. But it’s definitely a great question. I think I’m gonna have to look into it a bit more. @Casper Rah

Man, your videos are so much fun looking I just couldn't take it anymore. I had to take the family out hunting. We went up north to our cabin, checked out a small beach where a few weeks ago we found some different quartz. But it was already picked over. We followed the train track back to our cabin and Holy crap found a bunch of different jasper. We also found some golf ball size quartz and some chert. So much fun hunting with my wife and kids, it started raining on us and it made it easier to see the rocks. I found this crazy green rock, so bold in color with yellowish oh most like webbing mixed in it, super cool. Thanks to your videos I kind of had an idea what to look for. Still in the early stages, but I will get there soon! This video was awesome by the way way better find then I did, but one day I hope to pull out big ass agates and other beautiful rocks out of the creek/river. The dog was super cool in this video as well. Keep up the awesome work!

@@Rookie_Rockounding My girls like to collect rocks, so I thought it would be fun for them if I got them a rock tumbler and we collected rocks together and polished them. So far I haven't found any rose quartz peices big enough to tumble. I put the bag of rocks the tumbler came with into it, and a few peices of pink, white, and red granite that we found the other day into it. I know the granite is harder, so it's an experiment to see how they turn out and how much more time they will require than the other minerals. I'm going to show them your video this weekend; they are going to go crazy over the stuff you find. I thought I might buy some bags of the semi precious stones in the raw, dirty them up, and go toss them around the creek for them to find, make it a better hunt for them. But one day I would have to tell them the truth about all the planted gemstones, so the don't keep expecting to find them into adulthood lol.

Hey mate! I’m not too sure, but you would need to see what occurrences of minerals you have in your area. If there used to be a volcano there, then the chances go up. But I’m still figuring out the creeks we walk in. They can have a stretch of creek that has massive pieces and then a couple metres down stream, they’ll have nothing. It’s best to go have a look in your area. The exploring is fun part. And if you see rocks that catch your eye, then pick them up and take them home to look up online what they may be. It took me ages to figure out I was looking at chalcedony. Like at least 4 years haha! If I can help in any way let me know dude. Where do you live?

How are your rocks made? Is it from crystal formations? Why transparent?
@Rookie_Rockounding
@Rookie_Rockounding 4 жыл бұрын
Steve Rundle Hey mate, yeah they’re made up of microscopic quartz crystals that take on colouring from any mineral that was present when they formed. They formed when lava cooled with bubbles in it and then water with high levels of silica (the stuff that makes Quartz crystals), fills the gas bubbles and it happens over and over but each time the water evaporates it leaves behind the silica and the crystals grow. But the grow really tight and compact. I think that’s how it works. They’re called Chalcedony and the ones with patterns or lines are called agates. So they’re transparent because there isn’t very much inclusions or other minerals in them to stop the light traveling through. There are chalcedony with impurities in it that stops light from going through them and they’re usually called Jasper. 😉👍 Woah. I can’t believe I was able to answer that haha! Nice question mate 👍

Friday again? Dang i'm getting old! Nice sunrise and a great day of finds sir. The freshly stirred and washed gravels sure make spotting glowing goodness easier!👍 Rockhounds meet rockhound, rock dogs are so funny~ Great job getting him out of the creek and hopefully one step closer to home, if I could I'd give you a billion thumbs up for just being a good human being and watching out for those creatures who cannot do everything themselves. Not sure why they call them gravel "beds", I'm too busy searching and digging to lay down but you seem to have some good ones there at that creek with carnelian joy blessing your fossicking bags. Holy smokes cannot tell you how much I love the mixture of minerals you guys are finding in a single location and everytime you pull up a big piece on video i'm practically crawling through the screen screaming, "freak I wanna cut that!!!!" There's a place up north in Washington famous for blue agate called Ellensberg blue but ironically, it doesn't come from there, 35 million years ago a river crossed through the nearby mountain range and swept what material they find there down into the valley. It's a fairly difficult/rare find anymore with most of the folks who know of good spots keeping those close held secrets so don't go telling everyone where you are getting that luxurious blue treasure. Think it's time for you to head upstream and find the source of all that is wondrous and uplifting filling your pockets! Each time you two find another nice specimen is really awesome and gives me the feeling of when I'm out searching even when I'm not, thanks so much for sharing all the tasty treats with us sedentary tubers. (stuffed with turkey from yesterday and would drown out hunting today) PS. Who quits hunting after only 1/2 day? What's that all about, dawn to dusk is the best hunting as you get light at every angle IMO. Tell Benny a crazy tuber from the states is demanding more effort! haha 🤣 Thanks again gentlemen~

Backcountry with Shaughn Haha! Gravel “beds”. That’s a good point man, maybe it’s for when we find amazing massive pieces it’s where we can lay down and catch our breath lol! I watched an information session on those blue agate a while back, so interesting to see how far they travelled from the original source hey. Geology is nuts. Yeah the real life rockhound, what a gentle little soul he is man, I’m gonna stop in next time and see where he ended up. Definitely working our way upstream to where the source hopefully is. We found a spot on the map where it shows no creek, yet there’s one there, so we may start there and work our way down soon. Fingers crossed, you never know with this creek, it’s a moody one if rocks were emotions. If that makes sense haha! Sometimes great others just nothin. Makes it fun though. Oh yeah, haha! When Benny left I thought the same thing but we had our uncle out there with us for his first time to show him how fun it is but he had to head home. It’s so much better with others out there with ya though. Happy thanks giving good sir! Turkey coma’s are real man. Take care bud until next time!
