Most people don't know that Johnny Marks also wrote "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and "A Holly Jolly Christmas". Brenda Lee recorded Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree in 1958 and it became a hit song. By the song's 50th anniversary in 2008, Lee's original version had sold over 15 million copies around the world. Another thing that most people don't know is that Brenda Lee recorded the song when she was only 12 or 13 years old, even though her voice sounds like an adult. In a 2019 interview Lee recalled "I was only 12 and I had not had a lot of success in records, but for some reason he heard me and wanted me to do it. And I did."

Seeing when this was written reminds me of how old I am. I was a teenager in 1958 and remember it when it first became a hit. Now like me, it’s a classic! Thank you, Leander for bringing back memories of happier days. Love you. ❤❤❤❤

@@TentoesMe And I was a kindergartener that Christmas! My parents had just bought the Bing Crosby Christmas album and my mother brought it to my kindergarten class so the teacher could play it while we lay down on our mats for our little rest time. I was so proud that it was my family's record being played!

Hey, Leander! You already mentioned what I was going to tell you. Brenda Lee was very much like you in that she was an extremely talented musical artist at a young age. She lives here in Nashville, and you know I've always got a story to tell about things. She has lived in the same place for a long time. It's a very nice house, but it isn't like the houses that "modern" performers own that cost tens of millions of dollars. It is on the same street as the house that my parents owned when I was born. My parents sold the house to my aunt and uncle very soon after I was born, so I was over there quite a bit. I never met Brenda in person, but I know that she's a very sweet lady. You did a great job with the song today. She would be proud of you! I almost feel compelled to show up on her doorstep and show her your video, but I'm guessing she probably wouldn't appreciate that! A couple of hours ago, I was about a half a block from her house, so I still remember how to get there. 😊😊😊
