Mr. Robb Janov, I have become an instant fan of yours tonite. That also comes out of respect from what you do and how you inspire. I attended the rock concert tonite of which you hosted. I thank you for teaching my child Jadie (vista grande elementary) that orchestra can rock! It was great watching her perform with such a professional as you. As part of the audience I can tell you that you really opened eyes and ears throughout as you introduced yourself to a brand new audience.

Hey Rob, I just had to watch this again. I wanted to show it to musician buddy who is subbing now. I was telling him how much fun I had subbing for your Rock n Rhythm class at Jefferson. Keep up the good work! John

This a great opportunity for kids that is increasingly missing from our corporatized schools. America has thrived on creative, entrepreneurial thinking, not memorization factories, and programs like this one encourage the former.

Wow, I had Mr. Janov his very first year at Jefferson! I believe our class was just basic music that first year. We started with the broken down chimes, xylophone, and triangles. It was amazing to stumble upon this video tonight! It makes me happy to see that he is still doing what he loves! I moved to Nevada my 8th grade year. I kept up with my love of band and music and joined marching band (where I met my husband of 17 years). I now have three teens of my own, one in High, two in middle school and I am so happy that I was able to pass along my love of playing music to all three of them.

@Beck! You were there...the first year! Glad to hear that you're sharing your love of music with your kids. Yes...we continue to rock and inspire more kids every year. Thanks goes to you and all of the kids who jumped on the Rock and Rhythm train! :-)

Thank you, Suzi! What a fantastic night of music! I had a blast working with the 5th grade string students and I'm thrilled to hear that Jadie enjoyed the experience. Planning is in the works for more 'Rock String' opportunities in Rio Rancho and Albuquerque! Keep in touch!

Hey! I like you talk. It's an inspiring speech. I just wonder that how about the students that do not like rock music? How did you assign tasks to them?

Thank you Ngân! My school, and most others in the U.S. have provided students with strong traditional/classical programs for many years--including orchestra, band and choir. I created the Rock and Rhythm program to provide performance classes for students who usually don't join music classes in school. Some can't afford the expense. Others are intimidated by or are not interested in the traditional approach. Additionally, Rock and Rhythm students vote on what music their group will play. We play many other styles besides rock music! :-) Thank you for your comment!

An interesting video on getting kids to be more creative in school with Rock music. Personally went through a traditional music program in school which focused on Classical music. In my younger days, the Suzuki music program out of Japan became popular. It is essentially teaching Classical music to kids with a modern twist. A beginner in a violin program looks like he/she is doing aerobic exercises when moving the bow back & forth. Many Asians continue to enrol their kids in a Suzuki music program because it is a method of learning that require a lot of discipline and goes by a set of songbooks from Level 1 up.
