By far the most versatile guitar solo. Switching from buttery smooth blues/jazz to full on slide in the middle. Absolutely brilliant playing.

DEREK TRUCKS IS IN A CLASS BY HIMSELF BECAUSE HE CREATES SOMETHING NEW EVERY TIME HE PLAYS AND IS TECHNICALLY SUPERIOR. THAT IS WHY ERIC CLAPTON CALLS ON HIM ALL THE TIME. HE IS A PHENOM.

Outstanding! A star is born. The ABB keeps on getting better as the years roll on. I can't think of anyone that has touched my musical soul like these guys have over the years. I hope Derek becomes a mainstay and we see him alot with the band.

i've seen derek play 5 times all with the allman brothers. hands down, the greatest guitarist out now. the fluidity with which he plays is simply awe inspiring, he take you on a fucking cosmic journey with every one of his solos. also seldom talked about is his rhythm playing which is equally impressive. such beautiful tone and musicianship it's impossible for me to listen to him play without intense chills and goosebumps, it's an experience every time.

I was fortunate to see Duane play live way back in the day and the slide work by Trucks is all over Duane and a compliment to Derek.

He sure has got those licks he likes to play down. It's great that he stops quite a lot too, makes it easier to listen to. It's like every time he gets up there he's playing for the first time. really great.

So many miss the wealth of music Derek puts into the music. He goes from advanguart, to free jazz, to fusion, mixing in horn parts, of Parker, Coltrane and Miles. And the most remarkable part he is always evolving. NO NEED TO COMPARE!! Its not right and it aint fair! He taking the right path; not the SRV path. like so many.

Best response of all time: "Not better, Just different. It's music. It's not a race or a competition. " - you must be a musician! People who play can relate to this statement, people who dont - - judge! Judge not unless you wanna be judged!

I say that Derek is the best that's ever been and probably will be. I don't think that there is any guitar player that could ever be on his level, but then again, what do I know, I'm just simply a man.
@guitarbob6315 жыл бұрын
He is one of the few players that you can pysically feel a note when he plays it. I saw him and his wife last year and when he first played slide the note just floored me. Stevie Ray...Albert Collins and BB king all have done that too me. Good company to be in.

Guthrie Govan wishes he could phrase and build a solo like that. Derek is so rediculously good, its terrifying. He is literally singing through the guitar.

Just saw Trucks/Tedeschi last night in Charleston, SC. Words can not express the amazing display of music that was that show. 11 piece band in an intimate little music hall, just unbelievably amazing. Trucks is the real deal, John Mayer couldn't change Truck's strings.

Mention Mayer with Buddy Guy, Clapton, and SRV. Derek is a pure guitarist. He only uses the overdrive of his amps. No pedals. He also doesnt use a pick or atleast ive never heard of him using one. Warren Haynes is a monster. He Is in his own league. His PAF tones and his soulful voice are what has kept me a fan for a long time. His work with his band Government Mule and early work with Coe turned him from just Warren Haynes to an icon in Blues and Southern Rock
@richsutterfield113 жыл бұрын

i know derek uses 4x10 super reverbs in DTB and 6x10 super reverbs in the Allman Bro's but at this concert which i have the DVD of his supers are nowhere to be seen - I just see crate acoustic amps and a Randall Halfstack near Derek. Look at the cover of the DVD it shows the amp line up. hope this helps

@lifternate Oh yes, that bassplaying is awesome. And U can also check on Warren when he plays with his Gov't Mule at Rockpalast I think it's from 2005 where he has Andy Hess on bass and where they play thjs song. I was told that Andy was here in Stockholm playing with Scott Henderson, that had to be really something to see, but I was unlucky to be misssing the concert...

Lets see,use of theme and variation,tension and release,soling on the upper structures and chord tensions,he shifts to the whole tone scale,uses a lot of drama and jagged articulation(fast note patterns) with long tones and repetition towards the end,also it has an upward melodic curve.Not to mention taste,technique and creativity.Does that answer you question?
@CoadyShay18 жыл бұрын
My favorite track from that album as well. The entire second side of that album is unreal, but 'For my brother' especially. Derek plays off Kofi very well throughout the entire song
