One thing I've noticed about watching Allman Brothers Band concert videos from various years: It doesn't matter if it's Duane & Dickey, or Dickey & Warren, or Dickey & Derek, or Derek & Warren -- you're going to hear some of the best rock guitar playing that you've ever heard.

@Paul71H Жыл бұрын
@@Rational_Mind I think they were still amazing during the many years that Warren & Derek were the two guitarists, after Dickey's unfortunate departure. But I agree that we have to give a ton of credit to Dickey. He is an amazing guitarist, he provided needed leadership to the band, and he wrote some great songs -- including what is arguably the best rock instrumental ever (In Memory of Elizabeth Reed).
@cathystruska1558 Жыл бұрын
In Memory of Elizabeth Reed is fantastic the way it's played in this concert. Great guitar 🎸 work and the music stays with you. May Greg Allman RIP, but their music lives on even after 40yrs. This is one of the best guitar solos ever.

This version blows me away, WOW! Dickey Betts is a incredible guitar 🎸 😍 👏 player. I agree with the idea of Dickey Betts , meaning it doesn't matter who he plays with, he's the best 😉! I can keep listening to this version over and over again without getting tired of listening to him play.

I would like to thank two entities. I would like to thank God for creating the Allman Brothers Band and I would like to thank the person who uploaded this video. This is one of the best versions of in memory of Elizabeth Reed that I have heard and one of the best drum solo versions I have heard. A massively underrated band, Dickey Betts a world-class guitarist, I can’t say enough about this band, they have been a favorite of mine for 40 years. As great as this version was and my favorite drum solo version, no version can beat live at the Fillmore East album for this song.

Underrated? I think they are universally somewhere in just about everyone’s top 5 rock and roll bands of all time. I am extremely grateful for them, as well. And Dickey probably was in Duane’s shadow - I guess that’s what happens when you are arguably the second-greatest guitar player of all time and you are in a band with arguably the greatest guitar player ever. What a band!

Dickey is probably the most under-rated guitarist ever. He lived in the shadow of the great Duane Allman, who admired him and his playing technique tremendously. Then Duane was gone and he must have felt somewhat abandoned by his untimely death but he still had the talent and the belief in the dream to step up and save the band from the immense tragedy they suffered, and did he ever! But he has been a cantankerous asshole at times and he's burned too many bridges, needless to say, along the way. I was glad to hear he made peace with Gregg before he died...

For those that don't know. Dickey and Duane used to jam in a cemetery, and they played by a tombstone on which said "In memory of Elizabeth Reed"
@oceanhedonist2656 жыл бұрын
Mike Van - "Elizabeth Reed Napier." 😃
@yvonnelaurenty64275 жыл бұрын
To Mike Van: Not actually. There is a telling of how this tune came about by DB to Dan Rather-- a story of how Dickey used to take a lady friend to that cemetery "to romance her" as he didn't have much money then to take her out properly. And then the X-rated version of the carnal pleasures DB enjoyed there with somebody's lady he was sneakin' around with, as told by Duane Allman. Their gravestone rendezvous was indeed inscribed "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed." No matter the telling, an amazing inspiration for this amazing rock instrumental.
@charlesvonbocker57855 жыл бұрын
Yvonne Laurenty Yvonne not exactly - the grave stone in reference is from Rose Hill Cemetery - Macon, Ga. The Grave stone simply says “Elizabeth Jones Reed” - wife of Briggs H.Napier. Dickey did indeed hang there with his gf, and the song is “In Memory of her” bc that was his spot etc. I have a picture from my last visit but can’t upload. Do a search - plenty of pics out there. Beautiful place if you ever visit.
@kjoliver41255 жыл бұрын
The grave just has her name on it, Elizabeth Jones Reed. It also has Wife of Briggs H. Napier. Her date of birth, and her date of death. I saw it two weeks ago. I think there was more hanky-panky going on there than jamming...

Not even the Beatles, who all things considered there can possibly be no arguement against. Amazing musicians! Did you catch Dickie breaking a string? No problem, as Warren picked him up, and he got another string in, and continued as if nothing had happened. Professionalism! Great band! Here now in the 21st century, music struggles to reassert itself past dancing fools, bad poetry and a beat to tap your feet to. But the music, American music, will never die! From this great land such music was berthed. Jazz, Blues, and Rock and Roll are as American as apple pie. The music will come back from where it has strayed, it always does!

From this great land such music was berthed." -but one more reason for them to despise us for our incomparable greatness. For the lovers that night in Germany, however, they to this day wax fondly as they likely often do telling friends of that night when they were transported to a place they'd never been before or since.

Greatest instrumental song ever written by the one and only Dickie Betts! I’ve been listening to the Allman Brothers since 1970. Dickie Betts is the greatest, Skydog even said it “ I’m the famous guitar player but Dickie Betts is the real guitar player.” It takes talented musicians to jam like this. Warren Haynes definitely fits into that mode and I can’t say enough about Allen Woody driving that bass line! Skydog and Berry were smiling down on this performance!

Dickey Betts was just a country boy with ability to play a guitar.Fate brought him into the circle of other country boys with musical abilities, and the Allman Brothers Band was born.Duane Allman is listed as the number two greatest guitarist of all time,and Jimi Hendrix holds the number one spot.But,I want to tell you that Duane Allman was constantly learning from Dickey Betts,and he from Duane.Dickey Betts has always been extremely underrated and inadequately recognized and respected since day one of his career.He’s gone now, but his music is still very much alive to the people who loved him and his work.

Greg Allman was the greatest white blues singer that ever lived. I have heard that same thing said about him several times before by many accomplished musicians and singers in the world of blues and rock bands and so on.

So soothing to watch this man play, his body bends with each bend of those magical strings!

This just strengthens my opinion, of both Dickey and the Bros! Duane and Dickey are the 2 best guitarists from the USotA, and The Allman brothers are the best band from the USotA

Beautiful how Dickey Betts dives in at about 11:30 on a new guitar after he's broken a string!

I even like the Les Paul he had to pick after the string break more. P90's sound more aggressive and trebly, i like that

Don't worry about Betts.....he's light years ahead of everybody......as good as Duane was.......but Haynes is damn good. Put it all together......the best damn band in the WORLD!

I disagree with the comment that Warren Haynes guitar solo may have been one of his best. It is his absolute best! He blew me the fuck away with that one and I'm an old Allman Brother fan from way back. Warren you made that one your own for sure!

I don't normally double-comment -- but Dickey's energy and Warren's play were so complimentary yet different. Shades of Duane and Dickey!!!
