1:57 When you hear "That's one more kid that will never go to school. Never get to fall in love. Never get to be cool" on the radio or in your vehicle, most don't think much of it as your very likely jamming out to the music, but when your reading the lyrics, it makes you think. You then reread the song and it's pretty fine until 1:35 "I've seen a woman in the night, with a baby in her hands, under an old street light (Near a garbage can), near a garbage can (Near a garbage can)." And it just makes you think, how and why did we end up talking about... THAT!? Maybe it's just me though

Rockin' In The Free World" There's colors on the street Red, white and blue People shufflin' their feet People sleepin' in their shoes But there's a warnin' sign on the road ahead There's a lot of people sayin' we'd be better off dead Don't feel like Satan, but I am to them So I try to forget it, any way I can. Keep on rockin' in the free world, Keep on rockin' in the free world Keep on rockin' in the free world, Keep on rockin' in the free world. I see a woman in the night With a baby in her hand Under an old street light Near a garbage can Now she puts the kid away, and she's gone to get a hit She hates her life, and what she's done to it There's one more kid that will never go to school Never get to fall in love, never get to be cool. Keep on rockin' in the free world, Keep on rockin' in the free world Keep on rockin' in the free world, Keep on rockin' in the free world. We got a thousand points of light For the homeless man We got a kinder, gentler, Machine gun hand We got department stores and toilet paper Got styrofoam boxes for the ozone layer Got a man of the people, says keep hope alive Got fuel to burn, got roads to drive. Keep on rockin' in the free world, Keep on rockin' in the free world Keep on rockin' in the free world, Keep on rockin' in the free world.

Collective leftist anguished primal scream over the collapse of the Soviet empire
@IHateYoutubeHandlesVeryMuch4 жыл бұрын
This song is about America tho
@XxowendanxX4 жыл бұрын
@@IHateKZbinHandlesVeryMuch it is. For decades the United States was locked in a global struggle with totalitarianism in the form of the Soviet Union. Naturally, the left was on the side of the Soviet Union. Kind of how today they are on the side of China. Much to anguish and heartache of the American left, the Soviet Union collapsed, as president Reagan put it, by the weight of it's own immorality. And so Neil Young mockingly refers to the United States as the free world while dumping on the United States. I was impressed with his ability to fit every leftist cliche of the United States and the Western world at the time into the lyrics so give him half a point for effort and creativity and negative a hundred points for his tone deaf failure to recognize what was just demonstrated for him, the absolute failure of totalitarian socialism.
@IHateYoutubeHandlesVeryMuch4 жыл бұрын
@@XxowendanxX But this song was released in 1989, before the collapse of the Soviet Union 2 years later.
@XxowendanxX4 жыл бұрын
@@IHateKZbinHandlesVeryMuch good point, true, but the process had already began. It was more about the collapse of communist rule in central and eastern Europe. The dissolution of the Warsaw pact and the Eastern bloc. The iron curtain was starting to fall. Remember that the Berlin Wall came down in 1989. The overthrow of communism in Poland was underway. The Chauchesku regime in Romania was toppled in 1989. You are correct that it was not until 1991 that the Soviet Union was dissolved in name and the Russian federation was founded but by the time this song was released everyone knew what was going on. Obviously Neil Young and his fellow travelers did.
@boorendorff36554 жыл бұрын
@@XxowendanxX Young wrote the song while on tour with his band The Restless in February 1989. He learned that a planned concert tour to the Soviet Union was not going to happen and his guitarist Frank "Poncho" Sampedro said "we'll have to keep on rockin' in the free world". The phrase struck Young, who thought it could be the hook in a song about "stuff going on with the Ayatollah and all this turmoil in the world.” He had the lyrics the next day........took me all about 2 seconds and less drivel
