You ever hike to Knapp ranch? It’s a turn off before you get to the inn. Old buildings, beautiful scenery, bears and cougars. Also supposedly a long lost gold mine in pine canyon. If you ever wanna do some co op exploring let me know. There is a cave deep in the canyon adjacent to bear canyon. I was told there are cave paintings.

I’ve been wanting to visit Knapp Ranch for a while. I know all about it. I think the 10 miles and the remoteness of it has kept me away. I’ve been fascinated about the story of the gold mine too. Would love to take you up on the offer to visit together sometime.

@@socaloutdoorexplorer5642 no hike during hunting season. Which deer closes today. You can drive right down to the gate. I’ve done the hike 2 times and yeah it’s a rough 14 miles. That valley is very interesting.

When I used to drive I5 south going home to Santa Clarita getting off at Newhall Ranch Road I knew I had about 45 minutes if I could maintain 75mph. That would be about 56 miles. You state the old ridge route was only 48 miles. But that 48 mile trip was about 15 miles longer. Where did the 48 miles start and end?

The road is curves at about 15-25 mph tops. So it takes a while longer

The arch at the Tumble Inn is not the original. I frequently rode my ATV up there and watched it being reconstructed.

So you can’t drive that road I’m assuming? Is there another road I can take besides the highway?
@socaloutdoorexplorer56423 жыл бұрын
It’s drivable but only halfway. It’s a historic road. It doesn’t take you anywhere.

As SCOE pointed out, only parts of it are passable by motor vehicle. This is because the road has long since been decommissioned, meaning, among other things, that funding for maintenance/upgrades was terminated as it's no longer an official "highway." In effect, the government "disowns" the road. Consequently, a lot of the road has fallen into such disrepair as to be dangerously undrivable in certain stretches, plus the fact that part of it is now on US Forest Service property, so you can't drive it from end to end. As for your other question about other roads to take, my questions back to you would be, "take to where?" and "what highway are you referring to?" Your question is a bit vague. By "the highway," are you referring to I-5? Yes, there are other "roads to take," but one would have to know your destination in order to advise you on which "road to take."
