Great tutorial, I found wooden sticks cause more bubbles in the resin so I switched to a plastic spoon or silicone mixing tools. They all wipe clean with a baby wipe or isopropyl alcohol and a paper towel you can keep reusing either over and over. 💖

Hey sweetie, imagine this..... ....take some short building nails half inch long or so with nice large flat heads. Cut up a large cereal box or some card board. You will need two sides or pieces the same size. . polk the nails through to create a nail bed for each of the rocks to sit on. Use at least six to 8 of nails spaced out for each of the rocks to rest on. Then take another cereal box or cardboard side and glue it to the side with the flat nail heads. When dry, you will have a group of tiny nail heads to support each of the rocks. You may not even have to sand the bottoms of your pieces at all. Look at what pottery makers use to support their pieces while cooking. This is pretty much the same concept. Have a wonderful day and let me know if you try this and it works out for you.

I have discovered that a cat scat mat is lighter than a nail bed , just cut to whatever size you want and rocks stick less to plastic than metal. Amazon has them . Enjoy. Another great tutorial Rachel thank you

Excellent idea Ronni! I happened to have a box of thumb tacks that I'm going to try. I can also use this to bake my polymer clay pieces on to prevent shiny spots on the back.

Heat guns work well to remove bubbles too if you don't want to torch ❤️

Rachel I cannot for the life of me sand off the lumps and bumps without them looking smooth at all not even close.

I used to have that problem! I find that the less I use the better it turns out for sanding. Really don't need a lot of resin, A little goes a long way!! Also I use scatmat for cats, I lay the rocks on there to dry in a plastic container. Then you don't have to sand as much stuff off the bottom. I hope this helps in some way!!

My very first time using this resin was 2 weeks ago. My rocks were nasty sticky and I found the art resin website and there was a link specifically for sticky messes. Sooo helpful to know to mix strict equal parts and I now do thinner coats so this stuff lasts so much longer!! New subscriber! Only been painting about 1 month and I’m addicted to your rock vids. Well done Rachel, you have explained how resin works really well. I don't use Art Resin because of the floating bubble, it's the only 1 I have used that does that.

Hi Rachel! 👋 Great job with the updated tutorial! I did have to laugh when you mentioned the humidity warning...I started using Art Resin September ’19 and didn’t really have a single issue with the curing process all last winter. I’d warm the bottles first if the were really thick & syrupy (my studio can get really c-c-COLD in the winter sometimes! 🥶) and once mixed & torched, I’d then put them to cure in their covered containers in the main floor bathroom/laundry room. It’s the warmest room in our house in town throughout the winter (as long as the door is closed) because it’s right above the furnace room in the basement. I just avoid resining on laundry days is all. 😉 Then spring & summer came with its usual insane humidity (due to all the rain & muskeg here in our area of Alberta) and I had a whole new learning curve, lol. 🤪😂 💜 Big hugs to you and the boys, hope you’re all continuing to stay safe over there across the country. I’m not trying to get all political here, as I know we *both* prefer to avoid THAT, but I have to admit to remember thinking at one time that Ford was possibly going to be a bit of an issue for my family/friends in Ontario ...then Kenney & his buddy Shandro showed up here in AB and seem to have told Ford to “hold their beers”. 😬🤦🏻‍♀️😔 The C19 numbers are tragically surging up here in Alberta again, so I’m really glad we managed to finish up the needed repairs to the cabin out at the farm this summer! If it gets really bad in town again, I’ll be packing all my paints & materials up so the hubby can move the dogs and I out there. I’m immunocompromised, so I tend to be sent out to the farm anytime ANYTHING starts going around our little town, (but especially since the pandemic started). Plus my 82 yr old MIL lives over on her section of the farm with just her dog for company, so the self-isolating can really be hard for her. We have to keep to our separate homes for safety’s sake, but at least I can get her walkways shovelled out for her and run the snowplough to keep the roads open. ❄️☃️❄️ Ah the joys of rural living in the west-central area of AB midst of winter...our cabin is heated via our cast iron wood-burning stove - methinks I have another steep learning curve trying to get the resin to cure heading my way, LOL! 😉🤷🏻‍♀️

I have been making resin tumblers for several years, and I have never seen bubbles float up when mixing...lol. I have been using the same plastic measuring spoons since I began, and I just wipe them out with a baby wipe, then dry with a paper towel. And the torch is the best thing for popping bubbles. I freaking love each and every rock you make!! Going to start making my own stones!! You have a loyal subscriber from now on!! You're talented, funny, and you explain everything in an easy to follow way!! Don't ever change!!

You do such a great job! I think I really overuse my resin and always have a thick flattened bottom. I'll try to go lighter next time! I put my stones on a silicone mat to dry. I have a hard time getting the resin pieces off after I'm finished. One thing I found that works great is a lint roller. It picks up all the little pieces and is much faster than picking them off!

Might I suggest putting the freshly resined pieces on a baking rack in the box as that would give the resin a space to drip to and leave less surface to build up on.....just sayin' Thanks again for all your videos ❤🇨🇦

Rachel, it’s not spit you have to worry about when you use a straw to pop the bubbles. It’s condensation. Just use multiple straws and don’t blow thru one for more than a breath or two. (I play a Japanese flute and condensation builds up in the flute after I’ve been playing for a while.)

Oh I wished I had watched this first. I painted 5 rocks, so when it came time to resin them I used foam plates. First I resin the backs and thought I’d resin the fronts once the back dried. Big mistake! The foam plate stuck to my rocks in places. I’m going to try the wax paper next time. Thanks for the tips, I love your work.🌸

Thank you Rachel. I use Art Resin too. Mine never have those red stoppers but otherwise the same. I have never seen the floating bubbles. Will watch for them in the future. I have used a straw before, but will stick with my culinary torch or heat gun in the future. Mine always have more bubbles when I apply the resin than yours. In your first resin tutorial, you mixed it up, then waited 10 min or so before applying it. This time you mixed it and applied it right away. Will try that too. Thank you for the update!

I watched your tutorial and thank you. I resined several rocks and let them dry over night. They are a little sticky and assuming they need to dry more. Just wondering what I may have done wrong. Thank you for the update. I have using resin after watching your first video and learned a couple things the hard way ( not putting lid back on resin and pouring from same bottle twice, using too much resin using brush not hands, etc). Had to figure out the dremmel/ finishing thing on my own... The only thing you said that I question is you mixed the resin and then used it 1-2 min later...? I thought we had to let it sit for 10 min before using? Oh and thanks for the Lysol wipes tip!

Because as much as I'd love to try my own, I'd love to own a Rachel original : ) and being a Scorpio I would love a Scorpion either in a striking position or lying flat either in blues or reds, but I love how you use dots of paint to fill a space & I also like how you accent a pc using gold paint too, very nice stuff. 😜👍

Dear Rachel, I have made a possibility for drying the stones: I pour 1cm of raisin and hardener in a small plastic can. Then I set 4 big screws head down into it and let it sit. It works very fine and the stones only have 4 little spots, when they are dry. I hope, you could understand, what I meant.
