Hi Mister3ngma, I 'm happy with them. Nice range of tones and they respond very well to playing dynamics.

Hi gprivateinbox, Glad you like the vids! The BW is a step up in volume and definitely has more lowend. The bigger cab and iron give it an overall bigger sound. The BW will stay clean a little higher up the volume knob. They both take pedals well. If you play in a loud rock band the BW is going to get you heard more. The BW takes all the good stuff of the CW and cranks it up a notch. that said, I love my CW and use it alot. Would love to own a BW also, but, funds, funds, funds... Cheers, Jim

Great demo! Really showcases what the Distortron does. Love the AC/DC settings. Malcolm (and Angus) in a can! Do you keep the volume knob on the pedal set that low when you play live or is that just a home/practice setting. Thanks for the great demo!

Fantastic as always Jim, these are the sounds this pedal was made for and into an amp set correctly for it, just great! How would you compare this to the SL Drive? I haven't found many that beat the SL.

Thanx sisoldi! I think the ZVex is the more versatile pedal between it and the SL. It's quite tweak able. The SL is pretty much Super Lead vibe as its name implies. Keep rockin'! Jim

Hi Jim! Great videos! What are your thoughts on the CW vs Buckwheat? Is the Buckwheat much louder than the CW? I love the tone of the CW but was wondering if the Buckwheat is worth going for? I would like to run pedals in front of a semi dirty amp, so I was wondering if the Buckwheat gets me there at the right volume. Or is the CW too dirty to run pedals in front of it when playing in a band setting because of the lower headroom? Thx!

Hey man, great demo! I’ve watched a bunch of your vid’s and I was wondering about your opinion on “Bluesbreaker” style pedals. I have a distortion too, and I do like it, but am wondering if in your opinion there’s anything better for nailing a 1962 Bluesbreaker amp Tone. A lot of the JTM-45 style pedals I’ve heard/played seem to be more along the lines of the 45/100 which to my ear are a little different and certainly heavier than a Bluesbreaker combo to me. I’m playing through a Marshall Custom Shop JTM-45 Offset half stack for gigging that I really love, but man, it’s LOUD at the sweetspot, so I use a powerstation to tame it, and it does work pretty good, but recently I broke out my distorton pedal and was Impressed with it vs. using the powerstation, and it got me wondering if there’s maybe something better even. Any thoughts?

I thought the crema wheat amp was a tweed type amp? That clean tone sounds very blackface and very good!
@JimmyBurkard
@JimmyBurkard 5 жыл бұрын
Ari Koenig it has some tweed dna but is closer to a brownface tone, imo.

I have one. When I play alone, it's just great: warm, thick tone, very dynamic. When I bought it, I compared it with many "marshalls in a box" and heavy overdrive pedals and I really fell in love with it. But whenever I play with a band, it hardly comes out of the mix, no matter what setting I use. It somehow gets lost. Probably it doesn't suit my fender hot rod deluxe (in the shop, I tested it on a different amp). My Maxon od-808 is much more effective in a live situation, but obiously it hasn't enough gain for the heavier stuff. Does anyone have any suggestion?

try to raise your mids on the amp. that will already make a lot of difference. a tube screamer like your maxon is a very mid heavy boost. That's why it cuts trough the mix better. your fender clean tone is scooped. So less mids. You have to compensate with mids if you can't be heard. or push up your master volume :-)

It is indeed cause the Zvex dist. and also the box of rock is i.m.o. not a good overdrive to push a solo. It is more a very nice toneshaping pedal. As said above for a solo that jumps out the bandmix you def need a midranged od, like the Maxon od808 or other tubescreamer like pedal. I use the BOR only for the sound shaping and do the solo with my Dumbloid od. I have a WamplerBlack65 clone after the Bor clone pedal and it sounds like a big Fat Fender amp. Think SRV! Nothing Marshally at all!

Could try an EQ pedal in the effects loop to push the mids a bit.
