Ah, all that jangly goodness. It's gotta be a Dano. I'm pretty sure the Korean reissues around the turn of the 21st century were equipped with Gotoh tuners. I owned a few of those, and that's what I remember. That green really is killer.

The frame of a Dano is plywood but the top is hardbord. If you have seen a composite material in a dark brown with rows and rows of holes to hang tools on you know what hardboard is. Of course the Dano hardboard has no holes. lol The original had a acoustic style rosewood bridge without any saddle adjustment. The new one has a bridge that looks like it but it is steel. They use a heavier steel than what they were using only a year ago, Nice. It is really cheap considering it is a pro instrument. Unlike Fender Squiers and Epi's at the same price it has a pro status where the Squier and Epi have an entry level statis. How cool is that!!! Even if later you buy a pricey Fender USA or Gibson you can keep your Dano for tunes it does best. So it can be a keeper instead of a trade in later guitar. Also big time cool because it is then an investment. In a few years it's value will go up and if you do sell it you at minimum will not loose a cent! Later if you want a good tech can put a hummie at the bridge and you can use the Lipstick Tube PU at the neck for your clean sound. It works so good you can even play Metal. You will be amazed at how will that works!!!

I've owned a '58 Danno for decades, so I'm always interested in reviews of these odd and lovable guitars. The first two things I noticed (which you then commented on) were the bone nut and the adjustable neck. The originals had aluminum nuts, which I'm convinced add to the tone. They also didn't used to have an adjustable truss rod. That, of course could be worrying but mine is over sixty years old now and has a neck as straight as a Roman road! For interest & comparison, the old ones were all poplar construction; I'm sure maple is a fine alternative BTW....the top & back aren't plywood but rather masonite. Much cheaper, in keeping with the Danelectro credo! That jade finish is eye catching.

You're making me miss my 66 Danelectro U1. It was $75 from my Guitar teacher Charles Cooley. I told him I needed to learn as much as I could by fall because i was going to college. He said "I might be dead by then". He was dead and buried in week. In 69 I went through six guitars but I had to get rid of one to get another. the last trade I gave up a Wilshire for a Jazzmaster and traded that for a Strat a week later because both Hendrix and Wayne Kramer were using one. Years later I saw Wayne on KZbin using a Wilshire back in day just like the one I traded away.

@russellmarcoux49164 жыл бұрын
Hi Darrell, I don't know if you go through these comments but i will give this a try. Love the channel and i have watched many of your videos but I may have missed one on this. If you already haven't done one, I think it would be a great idea to do a video on covered pickups verses uncovered. Gibson is known for using metal covers on their pickups as a standard option. My assumption is that they do that for aesthetic purposes, it makes their guitars look pretty. Other manufactures do this also, with a variety of materials. Some manufactures just leave them uncovered from the factory. I noticed that Fender is putting some sort of "plastic ??" cover on their strat single coils lately. I think a video explaining all of this, and what effect this has on the tone of the pickups would be would be interesting and informative. If you do end up reading this, thanks a lot and keep up the great work. Russ

This looks like a bit of a step up from their usual models. No metal nut and very nice looking grain on that fingerboard. That bridge looks like a bit of an upgrade too. I have a semi-recent sunburst 12-string (with the F-hole) and one of the first things I did was remove that binding tape. It looks better on this model.

Very enjoyable demo. Thank you. One of my favorite newer musicians used a U1 which I fell in love with and had been watching for one (late 90s reissue) to be offered for a couple years. I just finally received an excellent condition deep purple one and I love it. Being that I like rounder neck radius of Fenders, I was surprised by how flat the fretboard is on these (14" r), which I guess is why some players love these for slide? It's pretty light, and frets/fretboard are really nice except I have one dot that is a bit sunk below board. Oh, the musician has a very light purple one. I'd really like to know if that was a stock finish on the late 90s Korean reissues (U1)? Nuther Oh, Emerald City Guitars has a vid of an original Jade! It's pretty sweeeet :) I just had to double check the website to verify the fretboard material of this one. It says Pao Ferro, but man, that's the darkest Pao Ferro I've seen (super nice!). I wouldn't be surprised if it is actually rosewood.....haha.
