The teaching process can be very frustrating and lengthy but in the long run it is SO WORTH IT for everyone! Keep going - you're doing great!!

I work at an ABA clinic and we use AAC on iPads for all of our kiddos 3+ and then have pecs for snack menu and schedules. We use the program lamp because it has a really good word finder program so it blacks out everything except the word the child is trying to use to help them learn the pathway and we only add essential words for our kids and then add more as they learn. It is so nice to have the option to use pecs too especially when working through behavior

Seeing you working with PECS and actually doing it the correct way made me so happy. Hearing people call any type of laminated picture PECS without realizing that it is a specific communication system is a huge pet peeve of mine! Too often I see people just hand kids a bunch of pictures without ever teaching them how to use them first, and then using so many prompts that there is no way that the child will learn to use the pictures for spontaneous communication. Getting the first phases of PECS down can be challenging but there is no better feeling than watching a child get the hang of it and finally be able to communicate their wants and needs :) Best of luck to you and Christian, I firmly believe that he will get there!

There is so much more available these days than my son had when he was younger. iPad worked really well for us. My son use to have intermittent mutism when he was just so overwhelmed he couldn’t speak. Thankfully this phase has passed and he never stops talking so I’m really blessed. Non verbal autism is really tough. Bless you and Thankyou for sharing

That’s great that he has functional communication 😊 I hope one day we can achieve that with Christian even if it remains to be nonverbal communication as long as he can express himself 💙

I did the same thing with the ring for a to go pecs. And I put his pecs in a binder as well. My son loves to just look at the pictures lol 😆

Did the ring pecs seem to help? I like how easy it is on the go 😊

I’m literally sitting here trying to get my little one to hand me the cereal card and I seen this notification pop up. Pecs has been so hard for us. He started off really good then I lost track being overwhelmed with not having the cards that I needed in the moment or not having the book next to us but I’m going to be more consistent this time.

Thank you for your honest comment. I agree with everything! It’s so hard to have everything you need when you need it. It really can be so hard to remain consistent 😖 we just have to keep trying. 💙

Hi! My son does really well with pecs. He's outgrown his little folder. Looks like we'll have to make a binder too. It's a lot of work!

My daughter has PECS all over the house and a device as well. She doesn’t speak but says a few words. But she’s come a long way. She’s 8 years old.

The rapid promoting method has been helping non verbal kiddos to communicate with their parents. Have you considered that option for Christian?

My son is 18 months old with ASD level 3 and non verbal. Would you suggest PECs at his age or when he is older ?
@ROCKNSTIMS4 жыл бұрын
Depends on his developmental level you can definitely give it a try by starting on phase one. I think sign language is amazing at that age. 💙

@@ROCKNSTIMS thanks so much for the advice :) I was thinking the same I've started sign and he is starting to get the hang of it. PECs and sign are tough, we as parents have to learn a whole new way of communicating and it's easy to get lazy. I often do 🤦
@ROCKNSTIMS4 жыл бұрын
Yay! That’s awesome that he’s getting the hang of signs! I love seeing little ones signing it’s so rewarding 😊 it’s So easy to get lazy! You have to mentally make yourself do these things. I can relate to feeling lazy about it. One day at a time. That’s all we can do keep trying and trying 💙
