He's just a boy ! No fancy jacket or anything. Just his daily clothes. By the way, there were only three of them at this time : Elvis, Scotty and Bill. D.J.Fontana came later. When they went to the Grand Ol' Opry (Elvis' dream, since he considered himself country) the manager there told Phillips when he saw them : " I want the whole band, like on the record you sent me". But that was the whole band, just the three of them. The guy couldn't believe these three alone could make such a racket. Of course, he bombed at the Opry. It's filmed at Magnolia Gardens on August 7th 1955. At the time it was discovered it was the earliest known footage of Elvis, but there is earlier film since that has been found including some from April 1955 and May 1955. There is no footage of Elvis and Buddy Holly together. There is film of Elvis which includes Holly filmed at a later date but they never appear together on film at the same time. One of the songs that appears to be being sung is That's All Right and in another segment Blue Moon Of Kentucky. Another short clip could possibly be Good Rockin' Tonight.

He was no even 19 yet and played like he had been doing it for a decade, however the venues were so small and people didnt appreciate them yet that much. Schilling comments that Elvis didn't know how to move yet,,, that's why he was pulling up his pants. True enough... Elvis was raw. But look at the video of "Shoppin' Around" in 1960's GI Blues. Doubtful. Elvis and his family (and their friends) lived in low income housing until he started making money as a singer, and simply wouldn't have had the money for a movie camera, film, processing, and a projector. A performance this early, in color no less, is an incredible find.

The date on this video has to be wrong. Elvis didn't even buy his Martin D 28 guitar until the second part of 1955 according to Scotty Moore. Scotty is also no longer playing his Goldtop ES 295 and has an L5. This has to be after July 1955 which actually supports the comment about this being six months before Elvis started recording with RCA (first Nashville session in January1956). Anyone else confused by the 1954 date like I was?
