He's taking his time to show an awesome pedal that took years to reverse engineer. Stop being so ungrateful & thank him for his time. We're not here for his playing. I never understand why people think you need great playing in order to review gear. Go buy it yourself & put a video up.

I do have to make one point - the Rockman X100 has a gain pot on the bottom. You could say the "tone" knob is their version of the gain pot on the X100. It's kinda weird, but nearly every video I've watched about the X100 ignores the gain pot. It goes from -8dB to 8dB. I normally run it between -4 and -8, but sometimes I need to crank it up to get that sweet sweet distortion just right. 🤩
@dunki-dunki-dawg7 ай бұрын
Good point. I wonder why they did it like that instead of having a front facing pot where everyone can see it and use it everyday. Did this affect volume or gain only or both?? I guess it could be a setting you used to match up with what PUs you are using or Humbucker, high output vrs Strat, vintage low output single coils ect...?
@TheJLF657 ай бұрын
@@dunki-dunki-dawg It controls the gain for the preamp feeding the compressor. And I'd guess you're probably right about it mainly being to help balance the output from the pickups. You see a LOT of variance - from super-cheap single coils on cheap import guitars, to the latest active pickups.

Taylor, not only did you do a great job demonstrating the sounds of this pedal, but your playing isn’t shabby at all. Give yourself more credit. I enjoy stronger outfit from the pedal versus the original X100. I had a 100 myself in the early 2000s, and I was not satisfied by how the clean tones seem to put out more than the distorted ones.

Sounds really great, and love the extra features and hopefully resolves the notorious scratchy issues the X-100 has. Love that the effects can be separate or together. Really appreciate RMS making these. Does it have stereo output? Around 11:43 the original seems to have a nicer presence... But maybe that's good, I don't want to sound like Boston, Leppard... To me, the RMS doesn't sound as locked in to the Boston sound, which is good.

I bought the new Rockman box about two years ago, the problem with that is, as many Boston guitar fans have said, it's not nearly as good as apparently, the original Rockman box was. As a headphone amp it's probably ok. I had trouble with noise and feedback running it into my Vox amp here. I haven't tried to use it since. This pedal sounds good, though. I'm assuming it costs about $200-350? I wish BOSS would make a "Tom Scholz" basic pedal that at least gives you his crunch/chorus/overdrive sound for playing Peace of Mind or Don't Look Back.

He is a little bit in directly. The Echo in the X100 uses a special chip that was discontinued in the late 80s when digital reverbs took over. A group member that works directly with Tom was able to acquire enough of those special chips directly from Tom's SR&D Storage to make this all possible. Next year we will have a digital circuit replacement for the on board Echo of our pedal. But for now it uses the same ol analog reverb chip as the original.

@@joshledford8921 Can the Output Jack be Stereo as well to record in Stereo in a DAW?
@joshledford8921 Жыл бұрын
Yes, both outputs are independent and in full stereo via a stereo jack. So as labeled on the pedal you use a TRS (stereo) plug/cable on the line out. A standard mono cable on the outs does not work well. This pedal is true stereo.

Maybe I don't remember my original 1980s Rockman correctly, but this does not sound the same. I have one of the Japanese GOAT Rockman distortion pedals. It lacks the chorus and delay. The distortion is better than this one. Nothing is like the original, however.
@joshledford8921 Жыл бұрын
It should sound the same, main PCB is a carbon copy of the originals from the 80s.
@joshledford8921 Жыл бұрын
Did you watch the whole video? He compared the it to a 1980s unit.
@ordinalkirk Жыл бұрын
Yes. I consider you an expert on this subject! I bought a GOAT generator based on an older video of yours. I used to play in the 80s in a bar band with a Rockman going into the front of Peavey amp. I had a Boss Flanger and Digital Delay. That was pretty much it for a long time. In this video I still do not think the two sound the same. The GOAT sounds closer but lacks the chorus and delay. The Keeley Halo delay has a setting that imitates the 300/500 msec delay of a Rockman. Anyway, not sounding quite the same is my opinion. What do I know?
@joshledford8921 Жыл бұрын
@@ordinalkirk Got it, and as Taylor said the RMS sounds more hi-fi and a bit more open. Its likely the extra headroom from the extra voltage we use. Also tolerances of components have improved over the years which can affect the over all quality and tone of the sound you hear.
