Hank Williams wrote this song for Bill Lister to record. Since Hank couldn't read or write music, he had to record demos on acetate discs. It was Bill Lister who found this acetate in his attic in San Antonio, TX as mentioned by others, and contacted Hank Jr, who was only 3 when his dad died. The video is the key to this recording, the storm was added to hide the pops and scratches from the original acetate disc.

Hank Jr was 3 when Sr passed. Sr wrote and recorded it, then In the late 80s Jr rerecorded it. When Jr recorded it, he had auto of Sr singing mixed with it. Check out the official music video Jr released with this recording... Mix of both singing and playing "together". It's definitely a cool song/video, but you can definitely tell how far technology has come since the late 80s. Haha ❤️🐘❤️

The original version was written and recorded by Hank Williams during one of his Nashvillesessions in 1950-51, but he decided against releasing it. It was not until many years later, in 1989, that the original song would get its first official release. The song was recorded by Bill Lister, who later gave the demo by Hank Williams to Hank's son.

You should check it out (just for yourself). I assume having a video went a long way in choosing which song he released.
