Excellent choice Don. Thanks so much for the selection, the deep analytical reaction, and the appropriate rating! Don't think I've heard Rhonda's version so I'm really looking forward to it!

Thanks for the morning selection. Some people credit her brother Earl for writing the song but it really was written by Melba. She wrote the song while in a van traveling to California. Originally released (like you said) by George and Melba in 1963. They took the song to #3 on the Billboard chart. Thanks for your reaction.

@@budmorgan64 Thank you for your kind words. I started as a country DJ in the early 80's where we had to memorize song and artists (because there was no internet) I still watch and read tons of interviews. Thanks again

Hey Don, Larry Bench, here I've heard both versions of this song by George, and Melba, and also with Ronda Vincent, and Daryle Singletary, I like the original version with George, better but you can't go wrong with either one of them!!!🎸🎸. Love traditional country music!

I always loved George's duets with Melba more than his more famous ones with Tammy. #UTRCM

How is it that they can sing this great and clear without sticking the mike down their throat

Melba was George's first duet partner. If you want a deep dive into George I recommend the podcast "cocaine and rhinestones"hosted by Tyler mahan coe the second season is all about George

Not really enough lyrics for me , but it still told a story . I don't know much about Melba , but I think she recorded an entire album with the Hagg.
