So many advantages to a pro studio but they cost and sometimes can be really expensive, Even more advantages at home because we are not on a booked clock timeline, Usually extremely way cheaper but as you said, most people just do not have the knowledge, space, acoustics, gear, or experience to compete.

Very true. I went to school for cinematography, and audio was a sub-subject I had to study. I learned more about audio than I ever wanted to, and at times had to operate V.O. sessions in the recording booth. Audiology is a thing, and professors teach it. Recording audio can be simple and sloppy, or complex and heavily plotted out.

I love home recording and have been doing it for years. I've often wondered how much "cheating" goes on in a real recording studio. Like moving individual notes around to improve timing. That kind of thing.

Very much so from many experienced professional Mixer/Producer.....from every instrument off the beat to the voice...by hand....including sampling and normalization....etc....but in most cases these Mixers/producers, etc will not tell the band and artists....you will if you see the band live! .... : )
@silkroad1201 Жыл бұрын
That widely depends on the artist. I interned at a studio for a couple years. I saw bands do everything in one take on tape, and I've seen the head engineer spend an hour tuning vocals in melodyne and editing tracks. You don't have to he a good musician to record at these places lol, you just need money. One funny thing about tuning vocals, is when you're able to hear the difference between a good vocal and a tuned vocal, you realize how many famous singers have their vocals tuned. Some of them can't stay in key to save their lives (Luke Combs is one of them)
@autocrow Жыл бұрын
@@silkroad1201 That's interesting. It's amazing how far I've come with my recordings since I posted this comment 4 years ago. I really need to nail it right and do nothing other than mix and master to sound my best. I've often wondered what my recordings would sound like if I had a professional studio engineer go over them. It would be fun to hear the difference!

Ok..... @ 2:41 ok let's be real, if you have Sony music or EMI paying for the studio time then yes you have another set of ears, but if you yourself are paying for the studio time then you have an engineer who only cares about getting as much money from you as they can, that right there is the biggest reason why as an independent music maker you don't bother with going to a recording studio and you should just do yer recording at home..... Edit, coz Oh forgot to mention all the recording studio's you'll ever visit they all claim to have worked with big recording artist but have they really??, remember folks it's called the music (BUSINESS)

Hi Alan and thanks for checking out this video - most appreciated. And thank u for your insights. That is why I mentioned in the video the importance of finding the right engineer/producer and one that "gets" your vision. They are out there, you just have to do your research and due diligence. But many people have the same feelings as you and with the new technology so many have switched over to home recording. Both have their positives and negatives. Hi David thank you for this video I'm in New York I want to record this one song. I think we can get it done in like 3-5 hours Bass drums guitar keys vocals I know there are a number of things to consider. What is a far price to bring a band into a pro studio to record. This will be my first time. Thanks...great video.
@rockongoodpeople2 жыл бұрын
Hi Bob and thank u so much for checking out this video and for ur kind words - really appreciated. Best of luck in the studio recording ur music. 3-5 hours including instrument set up time seems a bit light to me. Remember to set up and mic drums and get them sounding good takes an hour or more. Getting the right tones dialed in and the mics set up is an art and it takes time so you have to allow for that also. Then I assume you will try and record the drums live and the band plays along, scratch tracks. Then each band member has to record their parts so it seems to me you may need more like 8 hours. Lot depends on the engineer and how fast their process is. The main thing is to get the best possible performance from each musician. Pricing depends on the studio as it varies widely so I would call around and get some quotes. Remember the big thing is to get an engineer who can see your vision - who gets you, your music, and what you are trying to do. And have all the pre-production work done and the music tight as balls so each player can go in and bang it out fast as the clock is running. Some smaller studios will charge by the song and some charge hourly from $50/hr up to $100/hr - it varies. Let me know how u make out and what u decide on. Best of luck! you can record the best song with the best gear , there are tons of studios with " Million " dollar gear , but if you have $1 marketing you will get nowhere. I think artist focus to much on sound and not enough on marketing , I made billboard with a song i made in a closet with a $100 microphone is not about the sound so much but it what you do with the song .
