Always record rehearsals. Practice each song until you have a perfect pass of each one. Then have everyone practice to the recordings on their own. That way they practice to the sound of their own band mates and when you play together it sounds just like what you're expecting.

Appoint a musical director. Someone who has at least a basic handle on all the parts and leads rehearsal. Loop sections you're struggling with. Don't just play that section till it's right, loop it until you've forgotten how you were playing it wrong. Break things down. Need to sure up those harmonies, just 1 guitar and ocals, maybe with the drummer tapping time on the hats. Feed the click to everyone, even if everyone doesn't have it on stage, or if you don't use one at all on stage, do it in rehearsal. Just feeding it through the monitors has made a huge difference in my bands. If you're in a cover band and you think a song isn't working, or you're sick of playing it every night, or you want to can it for any reason, have a couple of suggestions to replace it. Don't be the guy who only identifies problems without having any possible solutions. Great point about keeping things fun and having humor. Make sure everyone in the band can have a belly laugh one second and get refocussed the next. So important. Cool vid.

a band plays a show ,after the set backstage the singer says "good show guys, but something didn't sound right"...,the drummer raises his head and says "I fumbled a couple of times"...,the singer replies..."no...it was definitely something musical !!!".

It's a rehearsal, not practice. When someone turns up having not practiced, just move on to the next song, don't allow them to practice in rehearsal, otherwise they will never stop.

You hit my two pet peeves. Cell phones and friends/girlfriends/boyfriends. Those and completely derail rehearsal and focus. Another one, you kind of touched on but in a few bands I've been in, the vocalist works on the lyrics later and doesn't contribute while we work on songs. Even if it's not your part, give feedback, stand at the mic like you would be singing if the lyrics aren't ready.

Well that's tip #1 straight out of the window. I would NEVER leanr a cover song by listening to the record; better still, not hear it at all. This way I would stamp my own approach on doing someone else's songs. I couldn't just slavishly learn something and play it the same way every night.
