Thank you! Just did this for my Reba RLT. Manual says I need 123ml of oil in the top chamber but that was way too much and a lot came out again. Still works though... I tried to extend the fork further but it was at maximum. Odd.
@AXRV884 жыл бұрын
You're welcome, Dennis! May be RLT version needs less oil? In these forks you need to add oil level just to touch compresion cartridge. Otherwise your forks will not at it all travel. The best way to measure how much oil you need is to measure length of compression cartridge and plus to it around 5mm. Then you have to put ruler inside of oil leg and add oil to the level of measured cartridge. Good luck!
@hellblast9114 жыл бұрын
@@AXRV88 Hey thanks for the reply! Armed with that knowledge, I redid the damper-side. On my REBA RLT 90mm fork from 2011 it is necessary to oil-fill the top damper chamber while the suspension is at maximum extension, that's obvious, but since maximum extension on the dual-air side is less than on the damper side, definitely don't have the nut installed so you can reach maximum on the oil-side. That might have been my mistake, or maybe I didn't pull hard enough for full extension. So I double-checked 123ml several times online, and when I filled I also used your measure-method as a backup and it all correlated. DONE! Thanks :-)

I purchased my fork used, with servicing done 2 years ago. Upon removing the lower legs, lots of oil poured out. What do I replace to fix this? Or is that something that normally happens over time and I should simply refill the oil?
@AXRV883 жыл бұрын
For this fork it's not normal when lower legs full of oil. When lower seal is bad in cartridge leg, oil from cartridge pushes down to lower leg. You can do oil change as needed and test your fork. May be previous owner done service wrong.
@StevenPuleo3 жыл бұрын
@@AXRV88 Thank you for the reply. I have replaced the oil in the uppers and it's working better after drainage! How does one add oil to the bottoms of the fork? It's a 2007 Reba SL btw so not sure if its any different from yours. On the damper side it fits only about 3ml before overflowing, and on the air spring side, the schrader valve is in the way.
@AXRV883 жыл бұрын
You're welcome, Steven! To add oil in lowers, you need to stand your forks upside down and just a little bit pull lovers to open holes for bolt and nut which holds lowers and uppers together. For lowers lubrication i add ~10ml of 20W it both legs.

Good video, considering performing the maintenance on my Rockshox Reba Race 2007 myself after seeing this. For some reason the pressure fitting on the bottom of my fork will not hold pressure any more. (Any thoughts?) I am wondering though, why you didn't buy a rebuilt seal kit since the forks probably have not been serviced in a long time and the oil is brown? Only $15-$20. additional. Also, adding your voice talking about what is more difficult and any more information helps a lot. The music is good but voice describing what is actually happening helps tremendously. A list of tools needed, long sockets, 24mm socket (Especially a torque wrench, 2.8 - 16.4 NM, since I don't know the specific torque settings for each of the bolts I am guessing at the torque range.) for the service and torque setting for each the fittings would be of great use and take the guessing out of everything.

Repair kit was not used because all seals and o-rings is in good condition(no oil leaks, no air leaks and etc) BTW my customer add pressure in this fork around 5 years ago and ride his bike till this service. If your fork have any travel spacers, they sit on spring side piston rod right after piston. Than longer fork tavel than less rigidity of fork. I do not recommend you to increase fork travel.

This fork was 100mm from factory for Giant bike. But if you interested how to increase fork travel, just check shaft on spring side. As i remember there is spacer for shorten it's travel. So you can remove it and check fork for new travel.

Thank you for this video! I have a question about a Rockshox SID carbon (Blackbox tech) fork. I cannot find how much air goes into the negative valve (bottom of the fork). Is it really negative or just differential regarding the positive pressure at the top of the fork? (150 PSI for me as per my weight, 200 lbs) . And if so, what is the range as per my weight? Thanks!!!
@AXRV884 жыл бұрын
Hello, Rodrigo! I prefer to setup negative spring this way, First you need to pressurise positive fork for your weight. When you sit on bike, forks sag may be around 10-15% of all travel. By this measurement you can find correct air pressure for your weight. Then you need to pressurise negative spring just a little bit lower than positive spring. Than more you pressurise negative spring than more fork sensitive is. I hope this information will help you. Good luck!

Hi dude, thanks for your video. Almost completed the procedure, something weird is happening : after I fill the cartridge side with the 150ml, the fork is really rigid (impossible to compress), but there's no air in it. Any pointers? Thanks
@AXRV884 жыл бұрын
Hello, Felix. Maybe compression cartridge is blocked? Air is a spring. But for rigidness your fork has a compression cartridge which is block cartridge. Try to turn knobs on it.
@krhom264 жыл бұрын
@@AXRV88 Thanks for your quick answer. I did check the compression cartridge, it seems to be working fine when removed from the fork. But when I put it back and tighten it, the knob still turns, but it seems to be blocked in some way, because I have to apply more force to make it turn, and it won't go back to it's original place on it's own. Still, the fork won't fully compress, and I'm sure the knob is on the "unlocked" position. Also, it says on the Rock Shox oil chart that for the damper on the reba sl you need 123ml of 5wt?? It already seems like a lot with your 110ml, I first thought that I put too much oil for it to be able to compress, but apparently no.

@@AXRV88 There, fixed it! Tried first with 50ml, closed it, it compressed, then up to 100, and finally 110ml. And the compression knob works fine, too. Not sure what was the problem though, but it works, so yay! Thanks again

Thanks for being a video creator to explain this process! My Reba forks went totally soft last week so I'm thinking of giving this process a go. In terms of oil - does it have to be fork oil or does any 5w,15w do the job? Also, do I need a specialised gauge for the air pressure or would a normal foot pump gauge work? Also, can you clean everything with water or should you flush with oil and petrol? Thanks!
@AXRV884 жыл бұрын
Brian, You're welcome! Yes 5w and 15w will work good. 5w inside cartridge and 15w inside of lower legs. About washing with water and soap... theoreticaly you can do this, but it can cause oxidation on raw aluminum inside of lower legs. The best way to clean parts is brake cleaner spray. Do it on open air. Foot pump can do the job only if you will pressurise fork up to 5bar. Foot pump make big air flow, but it can't do big pressure. Good luck with your fork service! P.S. Please share this video with your friends in social media, it will help my channel alot. Btw look inside the bike repair playlist on my channel.
