Awesome info and video, I got for free a 1986 350D fourtrax from my boss for free , original owner , it died back in late 1990s , they couldn’t figure out the issue and just left it sit for over 24 years , long story short I got it going , it was the pulse generator went bad , it’s like new , never been off road or abused , just used to pull a cart around flower beds and garden stuff. I love the machine

We had 3 of those fourtraxs. A 1989 and 1992 2wd and a 1996 4x4. My neighbor just rebuilt his engine himself and it has as much power as new. I see they are really coming back on the market in our area. $1250 for the 2wd models and $1700 for the 4x4 models.

I just got the 2 wheel drive version...1999 model, very well preserved, garage kept...got a winch on the front of mine for sticky situations...so far, I'm loving it, but it'll probably never have opportunity to ride it in these conditions, but it'll certainly see some trail riding & camping with...I wish it had one extra high end gear, but other than that, it's pretty awesome little bike...

I miss the 250 I grew up riding. Easily my favourite part about these is how light they are. You can manhandle them and get them out of anything with ease, or even just rock it back and forth with your bodyweight to get past most stuff. You'll never be stuck for long.
@rockspowersports Жыл бұрын
@Lemmings19 That’s the problem with most of the newer atvs. They’re way to heavy to throw around..

I’ve had a few of these, and I have one in boxes right now, I got because it’s previous owner gave up on it, I’m rebuilding everything on it, they are the best bare bones utility machines ever built. If you need to check the mail, or on your cattle look no further than a FourTrax 300. They cruise happy at about 25-28 very lightweight compared to modern machines.

I have a 1985 Fourtrax 250, & a 1996 Fourtrax 300 4x4. They are super dependable machines. I I don't see myself ever replacing them. Unlike most models, adding tire chains to the Honda 300 is easy. Some models have brake cables next to the right wheel, and chains must be on super tight to avoid catching them. With the rear brake location on the Honda 300 that's not an issue, & I appreciate that! Honda Fourtrax ATVs are great machines.

I asked the question already, but you have alot of experience with these machines . Would you recommend using a 91 300 fourtrax as a bit of a log puller to clear out some smaller timber in the back? I found one for a great price and I know from past experience these hondas are bulletproof. I'm just unaware of the transmission, I know my old Polaris Sportsman and it was an amazing maching, but with a CVT wasn't up to the task when it came to pulling heavier stuff from a stand still. Any info would be great, thanks.

In New Zealand they are known as a Honda BigRed. Almost every farmer had one growing up in the 90's in NZ. They can do hard work that's for sure. From towing a trailer loaded with hay and sheep dogs or spraying fence lines with a 100 litre tank on the back. For farm work nothing else compared to them. We got about 10 years out of our one before we upgraded to a Honda Foreman 400 which had great torque.

Great video, thanks. I'm in the market for an older atv, been debating the 2009-2014 ish Grizzlies and I love the old Hondas...but for a rocky trail it seems the Grizzly would be a superior ride but the old Honda 300's are like tanks. How does the Recon and Rancher stack against the 2012 Grizzly 450 or is a King Quad a better comparison? Just looking for 4WD, trail comfort and ground clearance, and dependability. Not looking for a farm machine, trying to budget under $3K. Any input and criticism appreciated. Thanks again for the video.
@rockspowersports Жыл бұрын
If you looking for a better ride then yes the grizzly certainly has that over the Honda’s. I think the 2012 grizzly 450 would be a great Atv for you. The Ranchers go decent but ride rough compared to the grizz or king quad.

My biggest complaint on the 300s is the lack of power. Ive rode one quite a bit and there just dogs, Currently have a Rancher 350. The 300s are actually 282cc and the rancher 350s are 329cc, well the rancher by far has more power, power on the 300s just flat out SUCK. Id never have another one for that reason. Rancher not fast by no means but it will atleast get out of its own way.

I have owned all 3 models of 4x4. 1996 fourtrax 300 4x4, 2006 350 rancher 4x4 and the 2008 420 rancher 4x4. The 420 is a game changer, because it is fuel injected and starts at 0 degrees out. The 350 rancher was still carburated and didn't start worth a crap in the winter. The 350 uses 2nd gear to play in snow. The 420 uses 3rd gear to play in the snow. :)

Am wanting a quad bike for when I go hunting pulling od deer don’t want it for speed. There is big hills where I go do you think a 300 350 would be ok? Keep thinking manual so a can be in control better down the hills ?
@rockspowersports Жыл бұрын
@James Sparrow If your looking at a Honda 300 or 350 then yes they are low geared enough to pull a deer out of the woods. Manual is nice for selecting a low gear going down hills however Some automatics will have a engine braking that helps aid in stopping the atv also.

@@rockspowersports what would you put your money one ? A don’t want to spend a lot on one. In the uk we have the Yamaha kodiak and the Yamaha grizzly 400 and 450. We have to go between trees so don’t want it to big or heavy
@rockspowersports Жыл бұрын
@@jamessparrow6549 The older Yamaha kodiak 400’s will work good for you but I’d make sure it has the high and low range. Certain years at least here in the US only had 1 gear going forward. If you have a chance to get a kodiak 450 that would be my go to machine. They have a front differential locker that really helps out in the low traction conditions. Perhaps a larger capacity engine in a Honda would be good. I know we had a Honda Foreman 400 (NZ model) it had good power and torque. It might depend on what you're asking the bike to do. I would say ATVs aren't really designed for pulling stumps out.
