The 1st time I had even heard of the Bone was in 2002. I didn't even know what I was looking at. It was at the OKC, OK air show. It was on the ground where you could walk around it. I thought it looked like a space shuttle.

It wasn't known at the time that the new Mig had very short legs. The mig had only a 15 minute envelope in which it could go all out to catch a bomber. after that all his fuel is gone.

A GREAT Posting video of the B-1 (B-ONE) And a great company manufacture 'Rockwell International'!! but..... just one thing ~kinda bothers me..... The B-1A had that prominent spine along its back ... from the cockpit to the vertical tail, but in Your videos you are showing the B-1B, withOUT that spine on the ventral side of the aircraft. Then, you showed a B-1A (desert camo) With the spine along the back of the plane. Just out of curiosity.... does the B-1A (all of them) had that spine?? Or am I mistaken?? From a USN Veteran 84 - 05
@raafdocumentaries

Because of limited footage we used some B-1B footage. Footage of the black looking ones are early B-1Bs. the white one and desert one are B-1As and the green camo one in the photo is a B-1B testbed using a B-1A.

Why wasn't the B-1A converted over to Airforce One? I mean... Jeepers, what other airframe could equal the protections given by such an aircraft?
@ChamplainDivision
@ChamplainDivision Ай бұрын
No way! There is not enough internal room inside the B-1A's fuselage to convert it to a passenger carrying aircraft accommodating Flight Crew, Presidential Staff and Press Corps. The very similar looking, but much larger, original design offered for the Boeing Supersonic Transport (SST), the Model 733, would have been a better candidate for the Air Force One mission.

@WocketInMyPocket_ Ай бұрын
@@ChamplainDivision the only difference is that was just a design. The B-1 is a reality. You definitely make good points but those points are for the sake of the other passengers. Hypothetically speaking. I think the B-1 would be perfect for Air Force One if say the world was at war. Something that can get in and out extremely fast. Get the president out of dodge from virtually anywhere. Unlimited range with aerial refueling. Of course no where near as spacious but never the less. It would be a good doomsday Air Force one. Plus imagine the upgrades a B-1 carrying the president would get. Would be a beast if a plane to imagine. 😮‍💨

You can't blame the Navy for rejecting the F 111. They needed a fleet interceptor and they didn't need an Air Force bomber forced on them.

B-70 would not have been stoppable at Mach 3. Same way that an SR-71 or A-12 would not be nailed by a SAM. Cancellation was due too McNamara's idiotic approach. He and LBJ had a hard-on for Viet Nam. spurred on by the defense industry.

@@ZATennisFanThe Concord supersonic airliner looks suspiciously like the B-1A too, doesn't it? Same way the F-20 Tigershark was held back and doomed by the US Government, meanwhile the Israelis were developing an aircraft suspiciously copying many of its features almost identically, and their cooperation with China would lead eventually lead to the current joint China/Pakistan JF-17 (Of course Israel had pulled back cooperation by this point, but geniusly had already transferred their designs; which China was able to further modify and use without having to pay a thing...).

Its payload capacity is still exceptional, it has a place behind stealth aircraft in the days after a war breaks out, or in areas that aren’t defended by modern SAMs. Most will be employed with stand-off weapons these days, and in that role it’s lethal.
