Actually Hogan got fired by Vince Sr for doing the movie in 1982 and got brought back by Vince Jr towards the end of 1983.

Wrestling was still somewhat regional at this time so Hogan wasn't widely known. This role made him nationally famous

Another great review. I believe this many Rocky fans' favorite film in the franchise. About the statue: once filming ended, the statue was immediately removed from the top of the Art Museum steps and placed in front of the old Spectrum, which was the home for both the Flyers and 76ers until 1996 (the Spectrum was demolished in 2009). It remained there for many years, being shown there in the opening credits of Trading Places (the exception was Rocky V), until it was removed and placed in storage. Arguments were made to determine if the statue was a piece of art or just a movie prop. By the time Rocky Balboa was released in 2006, a compromise was made. The statue returned to the Art Museum permanently, but not at the top of the steps, but at the bottom and on the right. Needless to say, it is very much a tourist attraction, more so than it ever was when it was at the Spectrum.

Great info, thanks so much for sharing this! I've always wondered what the history was with the statue. - Greg

My favorite Rocky. It has the best balance of fun and drama. It also imo has the best final bout. I just love the story of Rocky being on top, but needing to rediscover his roots as a person as his career bubble has burst. The comradarie with Creed is precious. Just a fantastic movie.

Well its pretty common for boxers from different parts of the country to fight in different locations. Take floyd maywrather he's from Michigan and most of his fights took place in vegas against opponents not from vegas or Michigan. So its pretty common in the sport.

It was good strategy clubber Lang didn't have the endurance he usually finishes his matches really fast and so Rocky let him throw punches at him in order to tire him

I really enjoy your reactions to the best movie series ever put to film. Jess, you mentioned not liking Apollo as much in II as in the original. But, remember what Apollo did after Rocky won the second fight? He put Rocky's hand in the air and with his other hand, tossed Rocky's head/hair. Tremendous respect shown by both guys. Apollo was the best fighter, ever. Rocky never hesitates to say that. The only reason he lost the rematch was he wanted a knockout... if his goal was simply to win, he already had that in the bag. One final thing -- if you continue to watch the series and get to the first Creed film, you will learn who won the third, "secret" bout between Apollo and Rocky. FWIW, while Rocky IV is another great chapter in the series, I actually prefer the director's cut Stallone put out a couple years ago -- it provides much more depth to not only Apollo, but also his relationship with Rocky. I hope you guys will take the time to watch both cuts, especially given your obvious knowledge of film and perhaps talk about the differences in the two cuts. Once again, thank you... and I apologize for blabbering.. (Bonus points if you know the reference from which my screen name comes!).

Yes, all was well in the end. I get why he had to be different in II. I really liked him in this one. Apollo is bigger than just a fighter. He gets what's going on and needed outside of the ring. Like a producer 😉 - Des

It took three movies to learn how to dodge always so annoying when people say that because the point of his fighting style in the other movies and the reason why he went forward and took the contact was meant to be a representation of Rocky's life of continually getting beat up by life but Rocky is able to take those hits

1. My favorite of the Rocky movies. Rocky IV is almost as good as this. 2. Where I lived had that pinball machine and I kicked the shit out of it. (Top 5 scores) 3. Micky's death shakes everyone. 4. "Eye of the Tiger" was from a band called Survivor. Their other hit was "High on You". 5. The woman swooning over Rocky that Micky chases away was Sly's wife IRL 6. Kudos to Mr. T for playing a man with absolutely no redeeming qualities. 7. IRL Clubber Lang (and his ego) would be back. In movie land, been there, done that. 8. RIP Paulie/Burt Young.😇 9. RIP Carl Weathers😇

Hey, guys. The man with the handlebar mustache in the white suit is LeRoy Neiman. He is a world-renowned artist who painted the picture you see of Rocky and Apollo in the end credits. His work was mainly of sports figures and was featured prominently in sports magazines and Playboy. This movie was the reason that Mr. T was cast in the A-Team. Just a side note. Talia Shire plays the bride in The Godfather. Her brother Francis Ford Coppola directed all three movies. Sophia Coppola appeared in the third film and has become a director in her own right. LOST IN TRANSLATION starring Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson was her film. Nicholas Cage is her nephew. And Jason Swartzman is her son. Keep going and enjoy the movies.
