I definitely think that Rocky made Adrian realise that she was strong, beautiful and desired having believed all her life that nobody wanted her and that wasn't helped by Paulie always taking his frustrations out on her. So she was very shy and mousy to begin with and very reluctant to let Rocky in at first because she couldn't get past the belief that a man, especially a strong and powerful one like Rocky who is ambitious and determined to rise to the top would never find her desirable but when he went in for the kiss starting with asking her to take her glasses and hat off, everything changed and her confidence grew rapidly. It's a very powerful moment and sets in motion the transformation of Adrian into a very tough and strong woman always fixing Rocky but never allowing him to fall.

This is a big character moment for Adrian. All up until this scene, she was timid, guarded, anxious and scared to death of trying to get even the slightest of her own needs met. But Rocky gently opened her up. He let her know right off the bat that it was okay to tell him 'no' if she wanted to. But she was attracted to him for it, so she didn't protest. It shows even further when she finally sets boundaries with Paulie later on, refusing to let him control her the way he used to.

Love how this scene has so many modern day snowflakes on edge and yet they miss the nuance of it all. The whole point of this scene works in the context of the story and these particular characters. There's clearly a connection already there that they both know and realise but it's been mostly Rocky all the way up until this point whose been pushing harder to try and make her come out of her shell and not be so shy. The reason she's nervous and feels like leaving his apartment is because she's scared of going any further even though she clearly really likes him and he's certain of that enough to make a move while still being measured about it.

The first time I watched this, I was on edge for this entire scene. I felt so uncomfortable for her, especially as he kept closing the distance between them every time she stepped back. When he blocked her exit, I got angry. It felt like she was chased and cornered... it seemed like he was ignoring and stomping on her boundaries.... then he said "I always knew you was pretty" and I MELTED 😂 As much as I disliked this scene initially, I rewatched it at least 6 times back to back 😂 He was so soft and gentle. And being such a big, strong, powerful man, his gentleness and soft voice towards her as she was clearly timid and nervous was EVERYTHING. He was patient but assertive. Not to mention the muscles. I was _very_ into this scene by the end lol

I know that Michael didn’t respect his sister any more, but was she really that afraid of Michael that she changed her name from Connie to Adrian? I would have thought that with the money the Corleone’s had, Connie could have been given a stipend every month and not had to work in a pet shop.
