The best act in the whole film when Tota Roy Choudhury exposing the hardship he faced as a Kathak dancer to Ranvir till the final hug between Ranvir and Tota. That 10 min actually killing performance with these two. Not sure how much retake happen but man what a performance by Tota and Ranvir ❤

the only time it felt over the top for me was when the mother started singing midst a very emotional argument. every where else the songs fit perfectly but that one song pulled everyone out of those high emotional moment which could've been flushed out perfectly without her singing. i loved the dialogues and the characters so much. now i am waiting for someone to make a playlist of all the old songs from this movie so that i can loop them

True, if they really wanted to do the scene that way, they should have done it without any background music, just with the mother singing and without all the walking back and forth... just standing in one place and completing her song would have been so much better.

When I went to theatres to watch the film, it was a full house of eager parents and children. Once the film was over, I saw many SILENT parents, some of whom were thinking and some of whom looked slightly upset, with proud feeling children leaving the theatre. THATS how you know the movie really hit the audience personally where it matters. Fantastic way for Karan Johar to come back and make a mark again, I'm actually surprised, as someone who didn't appreciate most of his work and reputation! The issues and engrained mentalities the movie tackled was done so beautifully and got the point across so well through the entertainment factor that both Alia and Ranveer bring to their films. Loved the way they handled issues regarding the role and duty of a father and what makes a real man without making it "anti-man"/"anti-woman" in any way. Dharmendra, Shabana ma'am, and Jaya Bachchan at their ages have done justice to their roles. They showed how we all preach women's rights and that a woman is equal to a man today, but if we actually watched a man stay as a man and dance as the center of attention, we laugh and humiliate him being "too womanly". Its funny because in our culture, we worship Shiva and krishna as the "ultimate men", but forgot the simple fact that both of them are dancers. and yet we have encouraged and had no problem with item number girls and objectifying women dancing on stage, making her the center of attention, not for her happiness, but simply for male lust and entertaining men. In fact, it spoke to the hearts of many sons who felt neglected and abused because of the toxic, heartless upbringing of their fathers. The movie blamed mothers who are responsible for encouraging their sons to be like that, and rightfully so!! we have forgotten that mothers can make massive mistakes too. They even reminded what the role of a mother really is, and that she has to not only focus on disciplining her daughters, but disciplining her sons equally too. Not only do men encourage misogyny, but women can too. There are MANY mothers who will throw their vindictive nature and insecurities onto their children, and in doing so encourage misogyny and domestic abuse even further. In this case, the mother who raised the father, and the father who becomes the way he does, are both equally to be blamed, if the mother not more.

Perhaps the weakest character in the movie was Rani. I felt as if Karan focused too much on reforming Rocky and the Randhava family that he gave little to no character development to Rani and the Chatterjee family. While Rocky underwent massive change in the film, Rani was the same at the end of the film as she was at the start. I wish they gave more to Alia Bhatt's character because she's already proven that she can be more than just the pretty princess she was in her first film.

So happy for Ranveer Singh. He has always been one of the most talented of actors and while his persona in real life is not everyones cup of chai, his on screen characters are chameleons. I have always considered him far more versatile than some of his lauded industry contemporaries. His last 2 movies were mid and utter rubbish but his talent from Band Baja, Lootera, 83, all the SLB ones and Gully Boy showcase remarkable versatility. I quite liked him in Simbaa as well

The movie was definite good. But it would be nice to have had a confrontation between Shabana Azmi and Jaya Bachan. They are such great talents. It’s strange that no one is complaining about the infidelity shown in the movie so casually by Dharmendra. Just because they are veterans, you can’t show anything, it just felt wrong. Dharmendra’s character’s wife was not dead and still in front of her there were kissing scenes with his gf. Instead of this, if they would have shown simple meetings and no sexuality, it would have been a far more mature love story. Apart from these disturbing scenes, the movie is okay, one time watch for sure bcz of Ranveer, he genuinely makes you feel for him!

People arguing in the comments whether Ranveer is a good actor or not and saying Ranbir is better. As a theatre actor myself, Here is my opinion: Ranbir is a natural actor and portrays all the emotions perfectly but he isn't as versatile as Ranveer. Most of his characters work only because of the "cuteness" on his face. How many times has he portrayed a menacing character like Allaudin? How many times has he shaved his head and changed his accent to something like marathi like bajirao? How many times has he portrayed full on commercial loud performance with a gujrati accent like Ram leela and succeded at it? You will find plenty of Ranveer's character whom you can differentiate from each other by their look, physicality, body language and accent. He has played a gujrati character two times and both of them look, sound and feel different from each other whereas 80 percent of ranbir films are coming of age stories where he is a loveable silly boy at the start and becomes an emotionally mature man towards the end. The only performance where he has even attempted to change himself to a completely different character and succeded is Sanju. Other characters of his are mostly his generic personas in different situations where he acts very well. But its hard to differentiate between his characters and their mannerisms. Dont quote barfi here where half the job was done by the natural cuteness on his face. He is yet to portray a character whose personality is the totally opposite of his real charm on screen. Whereas Ranveer has done it very often. Ranbir is far a better natural performer than ranveer but he hasn't really put as much effort in differentiating his characters like Ranveer has done in many films. If Ranbir starts doing it only then he can be considered a versatile actor than ranveer in my opinion.

Spoiler: in the lingerie sequence the entire audience was laughing until Churni began to say her lines. Then there was pin drop silence. It happened again during the first dance sequence (during the engagement). The majority of the Indian audience is extremely backward and sexist and such messaging is extremely important for them. Subtlety is for those who already know the message. For those who don't, it needs to be spelled out. I'm happy this film did that. It's audience absolutely needs to be educated.

When people watch the movie, they will be shocked and obviously the movie will seem a masterpiece because they already expected the movie to be a disaster 😅 Let's see how far it succeeds.. I was waiting for this movie for so long just to witness the good old charm the Bollywood we all fell in love with while growing up & which somehow seemed to have gone lost in the tsunami of action & regional cinema. (With due respect to all genres & regions). It was endearing to see the family drama, the romance, the gigantic sets & all familiar things after so long. As quite rightly mentioned by you, the performances by the entire cast were amazing & filled with soul. ♥️ Ranveer has always been my favourite actor among his contemporaries & mind you, it's definitely not a joke to perform the the character of a loud, blingy Delhi guy & an emotional lover in a single movie & do full justice to both the parts. I just wish the audience of today's times which is accustomed to masala action genres acknowledge such a wonderful movie & take it as it is in it's holistic nature. This movie deserves all the box office success for bringing the old Bollywood back! ❤

I really liked the film (esp. The 2nd half), but I couldn't ignore a few glaring issues, such as back-to-regressive KJo storyline at the end credits with the Bollywood (Punjabi) wedding. Unlike " Two States," which dealt with similar storyline and where the wedding with in sync with the Bride's culture, here the wedding was Punjabi. Bengali weddings have the Day 1 of the wedding in line with Bride's family traditions, followed by Day 2 of the groom's traditions. Here, the bride and her family looked straight out of Manish Malhotra's wedding lookbook, and so were the wedding rituals. One more quirk- if Tota and Churni are from Kolkata and have moved to Delhi relatively recently (as Tota was established artist in Kolkata) how does the "pushtaini" haveli in theCR Park work in the storyline? On plus sides, everything from Churni, Tota and Ranveer, and the absolutely beautiful dances from Ranveer and Tota!

This is his reply under a comment on his Gadar 2 review video: "This seems like a solid cash grab & Utkarsh being pushed down our throats as a credible lead." Moreover, in the whole video, he was just bashing the actor as if he had any personal anonymity with Utkarsh & his father. So, i wrote this comment to get any reply on his hypocrisy. But Alas! God, look at the comment section, it seems like half of the comments are paid. I have been into copywriting and I know a bit about paid reviews. Lol, my company used to make me write good and decent reviews that looked subtle for our clients social media accounts..so it's all a big bogus business. Can't and shouldn't trust these online reviewers blindly. They can easily be paid off, after all they too need money to sustain. But shame on Jammy for being a part of this horrendous scandal of paid reviews.

I liked the scene where rocky says - maa ne bachpan se yahi sikhata hai ki chai peene se kaale hote hai. Aap agar mujhe abhi nhi sikhaoge ki aisa nhi hota hai aur sirf mera majak udaoge to sab aise he khtam ho jaega. His conversation with rani's dad was heart touching❤

I saw it yesterday. For some reason Shabana jis role seemed a mismatch to me. Rani waa too loud. A very few places Alia did well but otherwise no. Ranvirs looks were definitely an off in the movie but i could watch this one primarily because of Ranvir. He was fabulous. Ranis father was one of the highlights..Rockys friend and Rockys sister..i liked them as actors. The music was average... There were some scenes that were really good but to sum it up... an average movie that had a potential to become something great but no..... I still feel Kuch Kuch hota hai is Karans best work.

For the 1st time I disagree with you Jammy and honestly this doesn’t seem to be your review. Just so you know, I reside in Toronto but follow your channel diligently because of your honest opinions. I went for the movie and came back to see your pov which I generally align with you except the time you changed your review about Kabir Singh which I felt was very unfair. And I must say I am disappointed to see you of all put up this kind of a review! Coming to Rocky and Rani, I felt that there was no build to the characters at all. As if Kjo was in a rush to get to the story. Ex: Alia being this star journalist interviews a politician and starts to preach him in the most thakela manner. Wow so refreshing. Like no effort absolutely no effort was put into the dialogues at all. Next was watching Jaya, which made me cringe. I am otherwise such a fan of Jaya Bachchan the actress, but it seemed as if Kjo’s brief to her was “Jaya aunty please be the way you are with media”. Arghh she almost looked gimmicky and so so so not punjabi. It almost made me think about her capabilities as an actress , like does she have her limitations of playing the good girl. Next the situations post the house swap, I think the only refreshing ones were those of Ranveer with Alia’s family. Be it learning how to self serve, lingerie, Kathak . Also what I appreciated was that it brought out his flaws vs their flaws. And how both learn something and grow. But in Alia’s case it only showed Ranveer’s family in the bad light and such mundane repetitive situations- Pooja ghar, dadaji-bahu bond, pushing women to think of their careers vs the flawless Rani. Where is her character growth. And the ad campaign situation- what was so new in Alia saying let’s role reverse. ‘share the load’ is a decade ago, Karan. You seem disconnected to what is going on in the world. Baat bohot aage badh gayi hai. And why copy star’s decade old tagline too “Rishta wahi, soch nayi”. I work in advertising and the whole meeting setup made me wanna throw up. Khud toh 2023 ke ho jao pehle!! And the ending, I was so happy that Ranveer took a stand despite not agreeing with his father but not letting Alia disrespect and then in the end the father apologizing to her and him landing up outside to patch up. Although she apologized but I feel have some consistency. The least we could show was her taking an initiative to reach out to Ranveer’s father and both of them making up with one another and then thinking of a way to sort things with Ranveer. I know happy ending karni hai but don’t character assassin just like that. Other than that, well the film was entertaining but I feel it was Ranveer who stole the show for me. On point character- he worked hard and we could see. It was as if the poor guy was the only saving grace of this badly casted movie. Reminded me of matches in which Sachin would score a century and we would still lose!!! 😢 Alia was good but I felt like there was something amiss. Like she played the role as if “hmm this is a breeze for me”. Nor could she convince me that she is a bong. And NO sorry there was no chemistry- just two good actors performing well. Ranveer’s dad was okay- a great actor but struggling to sound punjabi. Alia’s parents were both extremely impressive. Other than that, I am surprised Jammy that you didn’t mention Sonu’s heart touching track- “Ro lain de”. uff what lyrics man.

Nowadays its a strategy where they release trailers as bad a possible so that people can lessen their expectations but once the movie releases people enjoys the most. Good marketing strategy btw.... ❤️❤️❤️
@TriedRefusedProductions

No one wants to do that deliberately tho. TO put a mid marketing snippet out there to lower expectations. The better the songs and trailer, the bigger the opening. This has only adversely affected the opening numbers for this film

@@TriedRefusedProductions yeah that's true but with good reviews I believe this film can definitely go ahead with longer runs. However with the current market of grossing at a Mid level, I seriously doubt whether it will earn to get a hit tagline since the budget is pretty huge for a romantic film which tjmm too suffered the same fate.

@peterkryptonite316 Well where do we start Fat shaming in the family yes people do loose confidence When you marry someone she does not becomes your or your mums slave. She has right to say, she can do what ever she wants. She is not someone property. I like the fact that Rocky is not regressive like his dad, but very progressive. I like the fact that yes Dhramender character cheated but also admitted his mistake and came back to his family even though his wife was a chural. Same with Shabanaazmi character she still went to a turd husband who use to beat her. Well she should have left him that's what I think. I like the fact that Rani's Dad is a very strong person who doesn't care what ppl think he wants to live life his way. I love the fact his family supports him. I love the fact that this movie shows true meaning of marriage where its a give and take between both Rocky and Rani. Both compromise for each other. I love the fact the acceptance of two cultures even between families. Which movie did you watch? Or do you not believe in these messages that the movie gave you must be the regressive kind 😏
