You're absolutely right however I'm not sure if this applies in Rocky's case because his manager and trainer Mickey had been rigging every single fight since Creed so that Rocky could fight a has-been and not get hurt as Mickey was so afraid of when he took a beating from Creed. And while yes Rocky definitely got caught up in his hubris it was a false humorous because he was beating Fighters far below his rank. However Rocky himself did not know this he thought he was fighting The Best of the Best. It seems as though as though his manager Mickey was actually keeping Rocky back out of fear of Rocky being hurt and so I can't really place blame on Rocky as though it's his fault for becoming cocky although he certainly did however truthfully had he went through 10 fights at the rank of the fight he did with Apollo Creed he would be a different Rocky and maybe Mickey would be right he might not even be alive

Mickey was choosing fighters that wouldn’t purposefully hurt Rocky.

The parallels of the Rocky movies to Stallone's real life rise and fall and rise again are amazing. Rocky, he's a nobody who gets a shot of a lifetime that changes everything. Rocky II, he's out to prove the amazing success was not a fluke. Rocky III, the trappings of success and fame literally start to change him. Hell, even Sly's physical appearance is different. Rocky IV is just excess, with all pretense of the underdog heart of the original replaced with a big expensive blockbuster look and feel. Rocky V is the fall from grace. Sly had made flops like Over The Top and Tango and Cash and went back to the well once too often in an artificial attempt to put the heart back in a dying franchise. Then you get Rocky Balboa, a movie that is everything Rocky V should've been. Plus time dulls perceptions and people love a great comeback. Creed and Creed II are Sly as the older, wiser sage that no longer has to be the lead guy but we all know and love his presence. What an enduring legacy to have left.

It could have been a way better, way deeper film with just a few changes, although that would have meant a whole bunch of editing to try and get the pacing right and y'know, it's never as simple as just inserting extra scenes. As far as I know, they had many of the scenes that I'm talking about though, that could have made it better, they had been acted out and filmed. These were things like more backstory on Clubber, him being jealous of Balboa's popularity despite not putting in the same effort. The movie was TRYING to tell the viewer this was what was happening but that final piece of the puzzle wasn't there. Clubber had no trainers in camp with him which was silly. Clubber would have felt as a black man that he was being held back and since Balboa was training in a gym with almost entirely african americans, this SHOULD have caused some sort of friction or tension in his gym, perhaps some questioning why the hell Creed was training this guy, but it was only ever hinted at very, very lightly. To the point where if you claim to see the hint, you can easily and understandably be accused of making it up. This stuff should have been made more clear. It's stuff which could have replaced some of the training montage stuff, or simply added in some other way, but as already said before, it's never quite as simple is just adding in a scene or replacing one scene with another. There's a lot to consider when inserting scenes. Great film, though. Rocky has always been great value.

So do I, he becomes relatable and down to earth...no way an old, low class, bitter, almost illiterate boxing trainer who's only known boxing and hard labor his entire life would speak Oxford, Elizabethan English.

That line “HE’LL KNOCK YA INTO TOMORROW ROCK” is such a great line. I wouldn’t mind this is how boxing is today promoters and trainers worry about their fighters going up against guys that are too hungry. The way they captured it all like Rocky being all civilized and Kluber being all ghetto is on the money.

This difference between Clubber and the other boxers is Clubber is a THUG. He is vicious and brutal. Mickey knew this and saw him brutally fight his way to be the top contender. Mickey knew Rocky in his soft wealthy state had no chance of beating a hungry from the ghetto brute Like Clubber Lang. Rocky lost his eye of the Tiger so to speak. 0:00

This scene was the reason why I told everyone that Khabib was going to ragdoll McGregor in 2016. McGregor had the easy route to become a fake champion and multi millionaire for fighting Mayweather. The moment someone like Khabib who actually ran through the entire division. He actually earned his way to become number 1 contender and was still undefeated. Khabib was actually hungry and was on different levels than McGregor
