Interesting story of the piece. I'm curious what it originally looked like before it was disassembled.

If you are interested, the art historian James Stubblebine has shown what the Maesta looked like in its intact, original state. You can buy (not expensive) or borrow the book "The World of Giotto" from the TimeLife series on great artists which contains a good pictorial reconstruction of the Maesta. On the chance that you might live anywhere near NYC; there is currently a show up at the The Metropolitan Museum of Art on late medieval/early Renaissance Siense painting which includes some panels by Duccio, Simone Martini and others.

They should have had their heads examined for doing what they did to this true masterpiece ! Or worse.
