This episode I'm exploring the historic and magnificent Palazzo Sergardi in Siena, Tuscany. I speak with owner Lodovico about the classical music of Chopin, a theatre that may be lost forever, his parents' romantic love story during the second world war and the tedious and costly work of restoring an 18th century frescoed ballroom. You can find many more videos on my channel about how I learned Italian and moved to Italy. Making these episodes alone is very time consuming and expensive and if you would like to support my work, you can find my Patreon page here:

Now THAT’S a husband. Wow! Margarita was lucky to have met him, and he to have met her. What a beautiful story. I’m sure many of us can relate to the soldier’s despair and the joy he must have felt when he finally found what he longed for. If only we could all find partners/spouses like that! Marvelous video Kylie, as always ✨✨✨

Hi Kylie, first of all a public thanks for such an evocative testimony on Palazzo Sergardi Biringucci in Siena and on such an intimate part of my family's history ... I am thrilled that you have been able to grasp and transfer the deepest feelings of a man, mine father, who lived in the tragic moments that preceded and followed the battle of Montecassino .... On that occasion my father was decorated with the Cross for military valor ... Then followed the battle for Ancona and Bologna ... Shortly after he met my mother by chance and he was a great love; but he could no longer return to his homeland or to his land because Poland, with Yalta, was "ceded" to Stalin ... It was for him, as for all those Poles who fought for our freedom and were not liked by that regime, a great pain ... He left us too young, in 1969 .... I apologize for my English, but I have to use the Google translator ... Again, a huge thank you to you and to all those who share our emotions ...

Oh god I got emotional from the very beginning. I went to Italy for the first time 2001 and then 2006 and all I can say is that every place I went to visit I could feel the energy of the time, I would get lost with the smells the sounds and the beauty of every stone, statues, ruins, one word I left my heart in Italy. I felt in love with Siena specially. What story!

Once again Kylie, a worthy addition to your amazing body of work. Restorations are difficult because as the job progresses, it gets bigger and more expensive as new problems are uncovered. You bring us worlds we need to understand, from Iran to this restoration project. My father fought in Italy in WW2. He was in the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force in Egypt and Italy. He fought at Monte Cassino driving ammunition trucks. Sitting on tons of ammunition in a truck on a battlefield was a dangerous pursuit. He also kept a diary and it is probably our family's most treasured item. Your short films touch our souls, thank You Kylie.

They ended up in Australia many years ago but he wanted to know more of his origins, left to travel around Europe years ago and met me. We fell in love and together moved back to Australia. I could never imagine I would find my happiness in someone from another part of the world but here I'm living in Perth and loving every second of it. Thank you for sharing your Italian story. You bring so much joy to so many. Brunello Cucinelli restored an Italian village complete with a theater that will provide a venue for artistic expression for decades to come. Maybe the Palazzo Theater can be repurposed in a similar fashion? I share your concerns that young people may not even care about the extraordinary Italian and European art and culture of centuries past. Who can blame the Italians in Florence and Tuscany for being very private? Of course they want to preserve their culture and the outside world contains so much to avoid.

Kylie, what an absolutely beautiful job! You have outdone yourself with this one. Beauty in nature, beauty in art (sight), music, and somehow you found the beauty of a noble man, and a true love match. I am going to rewatch in a grove so I can also have the beauty of smell and this is everything. My three year old daughter came to me watching and asked why I was crying as you read the diary of the sort of man I have longed for and not found, and I told her it was beauty that was moving me thus, but also a little pity for myself. At least until my blonde haired brown eyed little on took the hem of her dress and wiped my tears gently away. I realized then that I am loved greatly, and I love greatly. Bless you SO SO much Kylie for having a kind and beautiful heart and soul and such an eye for beauty and a desire to share it through cinema! Hugs and so much love!

In the midst of the beauty of the Palazzo and the lovely people there, I burst into tears because my dad too took a very similar journey through then Persia, Iraq and Palestine as a polish army cadet. It was tuberculosis instead of malaria and Liverpool and not Siena where he finishd his war journey, meeting my mum at a Polish officer's dance in London.... I wish he had left a diary, but I imagine his feelings to have been similar to the ones you read... He was that kind of a man. In later life I asked him about his experiences in that time but sadly Alzheimer's caused his language faculties to deteriorate n the early stages. Let's face it: Italy had the best artists has the best food, crystal, lace, fabrics, fashion, architecture, furniture and jewelry. And the richest history and sceneries. The people of Italy know how to live life. It breaks my heat to see so many beautiful buildings and palazzos empty with no one to give them the care and love they deserve. And, the Italian people not being able to live their lives as they have for centuries. Thank you, Kylie and Guido for showing us so much beauty. War takes its toll on everyone involved & the repercussions live on for decades. Your video was saddening but beautiful & uplifting too..the human spirit is always eased by love. Always. Thanks Kylie for sharing these stories. 🙋💟

Beautifully done! I almost cried as the young man spoke of his loneliness and sorrow. I am so glad he had a happily ever after! I wish all of those ancient treasures could be preserved in Europe, because they are magical to me, and that I am not too old to one day visit them.

Wow!!! Stunningly beautiful! And what beautiful love stories! It made me think of mio zio Publio Cavallini and my tia Eva de Dios. They met in Italy. Mio zio was an artist and painted a few church ceilings in Italy and then in America. Thank you for taking us along on this beautiful adventure. Bendiciones.

Wow!! Beautiful! Beautiful! I love classical music & to enter to a beautiful theater like that! Just wow…I have no words. You have created such a beautiful piece. I believe classical music is so romantic. It moves the heart. The diary was just a glimpse of what they went through. Imagine, he felt hopeless yet God had a purpose. Sometimes it’s difficult to see what is ahead of us. However, if you keep pushing & hanging on even if it’s by a thread, there is always a bright light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you Kylie for your beautiful heart🥰

Kylie ;;; I can SO RELATE to the father ... I am 70 and STILL waiting for that special someone to appear in my life ... I had been married for 35 years and had 3 children - one is in his 30ies and two in their 40ies ... while I love my children very much, I never was passionately in love with their father. He was a rebound relationship as my first true love had been killed in an automobile accident. So here I am at 70 years STILL HOPING for the right one to come! Until the day I die ... Amen!

This film gave me that beautiful nostalgic romantic feeling that I only get from a very good period film. Romance doesn't happen like it used to, and to hear of it in someone's own words is so incredibly special. BTW I am 32 and LOVE all classically beautiful things. I've had a love for historic things since I was a child and I will never get tired of seeing and hearing things from the past.

I have only seen two of your videos, but I have to say this is one of the most amazing channels I have ever had the privilege of stumbling upon. Your films capture what I find so beautiful about Europe -- the mélange of cultures and languages, the beautiful art and architecture, the sense of history and of other lives long past. I wish you all the best

This reminds us how important it is to share the beauty of art with our children. We were just in Venice two weeks ago and we took our 18 and 19 year old to be academia with a very specialguide named Lucia. They never imagined they would love it so much. They said they learned so much. The art of our blessed Catholic Church reigns for me. Our Blessed Mother, the Sacra Conversazione con i Santi. Precious!

What a beautiful video, its so reassuring others have the same love for traditionalism and seeing that palazzo being restored is wonderful. So many parallels to the story of Lodovico's father, there is a girl on the other side of the world and I wish I could see her.
