Big German Shepherds like Herschel often struggle to get adopted because they can come off as aggressive or overwhelming. This GSD though is a loving guy that just needs some work so I selected him as a candidate for Dog's Day Out by Rocky Kanaka. On #DogsDayOut I take a dog out on the best day they have ever had. In Herschel's case it was a success. With the video going viral and millions of people seeing it hundreds of people submitted applications and now he has his perfect forever family. To get him from Los Angeles California to Washington State we are taking him on a road trip and meeting his new furever family in Redding California. GSDs are very difficult puppies. I have a one year old and he's making my life extremely difficult. I did rescue him & was told he'd be only 40lbs (he's a mix) & he's over 80 already & I'm disabled. I almost re-homed him but couldn't bear to give him up. I'm hoping he'll grow out of these bad behaviors. I know GSDs are wonderful dogs & am sticking by him to make it work. I love him so much & working so hard on discipline. I hope this one is happy forever!

A Sicari Alright , I know some ppl from Russia who take digital pictures ran through a software that sees people's aura ..Ancient Hindu knew about that thousands years ago. The look at the dogs face is what real happiness feels like. At this moment the dog doesn't care about anything. his American Dream is to be with his human : white,black, poor, rich, handicapped, mute, homeless - none of it matters . Show me any human being who would've done that for his friend? People never see a care of this level from their family members most of the times. I took my boyfirend and our dog to see the ocean for the first time last new year's day and he had almost the same reaction.. he laughed and ran across the beach for two hours, losing his phone in the proces and not realizing for who knows how long.. we found it later.. but it has been such a joy to show him why my heart aches so much for not living somewhere near the sea.. I am always completely destroyed when I need to go away and leave the ocean behind and now he finally understands.. and this german shepperd has joined the club :) ♡

BTW I had a couple that were really dumb. They over looked my faults so I didn't mine theirs. I look back at all my friends that are gone and still miss them all. Where else do you have friends that love you no matter what you do? Hope I can out live my last adopted 9 yr. old Chihuahua. He is deaf but sticks by me and seems to love me. Not a beauty but he is his own little guy. We help each other. I gave him a home and he gives me a reason to get up. I had a germanshephard for 15 year and he died almost two years ago. Every day is a struggle to want to get up. My retired military husband died three months later. Seeing this brought back some wonderful memories when I took him to the ocean. Cherish every moment you have with his dog it goes fast. Kim.

@@sadily That's great to hear. I rescue feral cats where I live because there's no SPCA here. I've managed to rescue & rehome about 100 cats & a few dogs in the last couple years. I'm hoping to start making & putting up little videos on my own YT channel this year. It's too cold right now to film, but I go out every night and feed homeless cats. They need to eat to help them stay warm.

The tears are freely flowing. His reaction to seeing the ocean was PRICELESS. I can't believe how happy he was. How loudly he told you how excited he was to be experiencing the beauty of life instead of the cold reality of chains and fences. Absolutely stunning. Also I am getting some questions as to why I didn't let him off the leash so I thought I would jump in here and share. He was tied up for 5 years before he was dumped at the shelter and he doesn't know what a leash is. When other dogs approach he gets scared and moves into attack mode. Not many people can handle a 100+ LB German Shepherd in full fear aggression mode so having him by my side until he knew that he was safe is really important. There were a lot of other dogs at the beach that day and if I would have let him off the leash he could have run away, attacked other dogs, or ran into traffic. While I would have love to let him off the leash that one moment of risk would not have been worth his safety. This video only shows the start of his journey but the good news is he is now with his new family, is continuing his leash training and he runs and swims free on a large plot of land! 😃👍

Rocky Kanaka totally understandable!! We got my daughter a German shepherd for Christmas. The poor little guy was taken away from his momma WAY too early he was barely 5 weeks old when we got him. He's a big baby about so many things and used to get terrified of other dogs that would approach us on our walks. Even though he is still a puppy he's HUGE and we had an incident where a dog who wasn't on a leash or chain came barreling out of his yard as we were walking by. Poor chippy freaked out and was chewbacca talking asking him to not come any closer. The dog did not get the hint and just kept coming. Thank goodness for his harness and leash or it could've been a really ugly situation. My daughter managed to grab the other dog by its collar and held it back while the other dogs owner slowly walked out to get her dog. Meanwhile chip was freaking out and wetting himself poor little guy. Long story short The lady got back to her yard and let's go of her dog and he came barreling at us a second time!! Chip looks like a full grown 100lb dog but he's such a big baby in reality. If he hadn't been on such a short leash and harnessed that situation could have gotten very Ugly.
