In all 50 states animal cruelty is a felony. But that doesn't mean police officers will take action when you catch someone abusing an animal..... We moved around alot because of my husband's job and I saw/heard of more animal abuse in MO and AL vs. anywhere else (except for when we lived in Vietnam..... oh, the horrors of it)
@juliestanfield8433Ай бұрын
But not enough! Don't ever say that! I'm in MO. The couple shot two of our dogs Sheba and Snowball two years ago. Our dogs were so sweet and rescued in the past, and have had done nothing just got murdered by crazy couple nearby. My husband called police several times. Missouri police did nothing!!
@Texas240Ай бұрын
As others have pointed out, making "animal cruelty" a felony is somewhat meaningless if the legal definition is very narrow and there are exclusions for some of the most egregious systematic abusers (puppy mills and backyard breeders).

Years ago I heard a vet say that if she could write the law, she would shut down all breeders, including the excellent, reputable breeders, until all the animals in the shelters and rescues have good homes. I don't disagree.

Could you imagine! ❤Probably wouldn't even take that long! 1-2 years maybe. (I'm likely being over optimistic lol.)
@auntiemingoАй бұрын
In theory that sounds good, but in practice wouldn't really be good for those that need purpose bred dogs ie working dogs. Dogs like livestock guardian dogs, herding dogs, police & military K9s, even service dogs, need to have certain instincts, have a certain temperament, and/or be the right size. You're not going to find most of those dogs in a shelter, except for occasionally service dogs or search & rescue dogs. Shutting down unethical breeders or show dog breeders would go a long way towards helping
@kathycortez232Ай бұрын

January 3rd 2023 I adopted an 18 month old Bernese Mountain dog female. Annie was terrified of people, never in a house, never been out in the world, never had a bath, never been in a house, she was completely shut down. Fast forward 18 months and Annie allowed me the privilege of touching her, on her terms! From the day I adopted Annie we have been on a hell of a journey together. It's all been worth it! We are inseparable! Thank you for all you give to these broken survivors!

I’m from the UK and am privileged to have a Tibetan Terrier. They are the best companions ever, very smart and loving and love their food and treats. They need a lot,of grooming as their fur grows to the floor if you leave it so ours has a hair cut every 8 weeks and that keeps him tip top and gorgeous. They don’t like being left alone for long and enjoy human company - Cinder would still make an amazing companion in spite of her experience - I can see similar reactions in your video to our boy already. Many years ago, I was a Rottweiler breeder, but unlike some of the breeders you deal with, our mama Rottweiler was as much a member of our family as we were. We had a litter every year and a half. We had 1/2 acre fenced for the dogs and an inside room designated for the dogs. We had 3 litters before we realized exactly what Rocky said, shelters exist because of people like us. I feel good about how we ethically bred our dogs, but the people who treat their animals like means to an end with no regard for their health and happiness make me sick. Anyone who treats another living being as an object and a means to their end doesn't deserve to ever be trusted. Thank you, Rocky, Kelly, Alexis, Mel, and the entire AFV team, for your tireless advocacy on behalf of those without a voice. ❤🐈
@Texas240Ай бұрын
Even if you genetically health screened the parents and treated them well, the fact still remains that nearly 5 MILLION dogs end up in shelters EVERY YEAR in the USA with over 400,000 being eliminated. Essentially, the pups of your well treated dogs either directly ended up eliminated in a shelter before the end of their life or were directly responsible for a dog that was eliminated because a potential pet parent bought instead of adopt. So, thank you for not continuing, even though you are proud of your dogs and wanted to share their offspring with others.

All the LOVE and CARE you pour into them will be returned 1000 fold in the licks and hugs they will give you. Can you consider a calendar to pay tribute to each one you rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome? The photography you showed in this video was stunning. I think a pup a month covering last years darlings with a thumbnail collection on the back cover representing each pup from the beginning would be a great tribute and could be a great memorial for your ongoing great work. DOG by DOG, day by day, week by week, month by month, and year by year, the DOGS will be saved. I hope you can expand this into more states.❤

This was by far my favorite video - seeing the bath and the sweater made me just LOVE this pretty lady! Good luck, Cinder!

Whoever treated these beautiful pups so terribly deserves to be in jail. It just makes me sick to see any animal in that shape. Mel is such a sweetheart, and seemingly part magician....Cinder's transformation is incredible!! Pumpkin keeps getting prettier by the day. I hope for a loving home for Pumpkin in the coming year. Bonnie is a real beauty; anyone who adopts her will have a wonderful friend for life. Thank you, Rocky and Kelly! I am in awe of all that you do for these dogs.

Hope this sweet dog makes it and finds a wonderful, loving home. Thank you all for the kind work you do visiting and caring about these animals, and to Mel for the care she shows in grooming the dogs.

I cry every time I watch videos about dogs. I am over 40 and I want and need to love a dog.

My niece fostered a young pittie that her friend found on the side of the road, she had been hit on the head and left, was emaciated and had obviously been bred many times. She’s still a bit apprehensive around men she doesn’t know, but is now generally happy and friendly and energetic. Bless all the people who donated to help her foster and heal that dog. ❤

You just mentioned the exact reason I stopped breeding AKC registered standard poodles in 1970. I raised two litters and realized that they were adding to the population of dogs needing homes. Thanks for mentioning that. Love you guys ❤

I rescued a dog that looked just like this one when I rescued him. I’ve had him for 7 years and he is the BEST dog ever. He still has life long issues from his days on the streets, but I would do it all over again in a heartbeat 🐾🐶

My friend has a Tibetan Terrier. Adorable dog. She tells me their eyes are very sensitive to light, and her vet told her never to trim the hair around her eyes short. It’s naturally long to protect her vision and keep her from feeling the pain of bright light. Apparently, these dogs are prone to cataracts and other eye problems.

This one made me cry. 😢So Sad. 💔💔💔💔My little Pekingese dog with several others were dumped by a breeder in the San Bernardino desert, left to die. Miracle they survived. He looked so bad. I have had him a year now. He lives the life now, filled with love. He is the best gentle dog I’ve ever had. Thank you for all you do for these innocent dogs that has done nothing but be born. Oh Rocky, you are an Angel 😇
