We took Bean to a specialist that said amputation would be the most cost effective but they had a surgeon that could do the procedure and we want to give him the best shot possible at life so we are taking him to that emergency room now 👏 Updates coming as they come in. Thank you!

We rescued a beagle/lab puppy back around 1990. When he was around 6 months I went to grab the mail and he ran out of the house like a bullet and got hit by a car. His hip and femur were shattered into pieces. The vet gave us 3 options...put the dog down, amputate, or put a pin in and wire the pieces of bone around the pin. My dad paid $12,000 to pin and wire it back together. One leg was shorter but he could jump like a kangaroo and he lived to be almost 22 yrs old.

The person that owns the daycare where I take my rescue pup for interaction only rescues pups that are amputees. When I asked her about it she said the dogs don't care, they just want to be dogs and be loved. To watch them play you can tell they don't care. my dog is an amputee after surgery failed. his implant migrated into the joint and he was amputated. he’s my blessing and i am thankful he is alive. he survived a hit and run. he’s only 8 pounds. even his surgeon said it’s a miracle he survived. most dogs don’t make it but he did. she said his surgery made his year. i love him so much. i paid 16k for his pelvic reconstruction and his rear legs repair ❤❤❤.

We got a rescue dog, took him home, and he jumped out the open door, ran up onto the highway and got smashed by a car... He was still alive! We rushed him to the vet..... The vet said we should probably have him put down, as he was so smashed up he probably couldn't survive..... But he said he had some ideas of his own on things that could be tried and if we gave him and the pup the chance he'd do his best and wouldn't charge for it. Weeks later we got George back and she was 'good as new'! Just goes to show, you never know.... But that vet was something when it came to determination and generosity!

We had a small dog with back broken leg. We had surgery done with a rod placed with external fixation. That was going well until the external rod got caught in the slat in our deck and his struggles pulled the pin out. We took him back to the vet who removed all the hardware and then left leg alone without fixation for weeks as he recovered his blood volume. He was so resilient. We went for our walks and that leg flapped up and down as he ran. Eventually we went back and had that leg amputated. He recovered and after the first time he fell over trying to hike up his remaining leg to pee and falling over, he adjusted and kept up. He hiked up his stump to pee after that. He was a giant Pomeranian who NEVER had his coat cut. Many didn’t even notice he was missing a leg with all his hair and agility. He was an alpha who licked the ears of cats, bunnies and other dogs. He was so very loved on this farm and when he passed we were all devastated. We have had dogs all our lives and primarily Golden Retrievers but we take in rescues and he was one of them. Thank you for helping these animals.

Don't be sad about him losing the leg if it comes to that. He'll adapt - probably pretty quickly because he's a puppy. He'll grow into a happy healthy dog. With some love and good food, he'll be great.

We have 2 7y/o blues. They are brother/sister litter mates. Absolutely one of the best breeds! We had a red heeler that lived to be 15. She had oral bone cancer. They removed her lower right jaw bone, and she was able to enjoy another 6 months before the cancer came back.
