I use that exact Vallejo Grey Sand texture paint for my ground work too. In fact I use it no matter what color I want it in the end. It can be tinted if need be or like you did add a wash or contrast type paint over it once dry to get the final tone. You can also add some tiny pebbles into it when wet for rocks(I use course sand and filter the biggest parts for those rocks).

I keep all my punched out pieces too...they work for all sorts of things from door handles to entirely new pieces of furniture like you say. I work in a different scale but your techniques are just as useful to me...also the layout of this blacksmiths shop as I need to build one from scratch. I would rather make my own fuel for woodstoves too...especially when you see people charging a lot for miniature wood piles! This is more or less exactly what I had in mind with the blacksmith adjacent to the small livery stable...this is great...thanks!

HI Matt, great video! I got this kit as well recently, and have just finished it. It never occurred to me to keep the wooden punch out bits, so I'll start with the next kit I build! You gave me some neat ideas on how to paint the blacksmiths!
