I'm so glad to find your channel and videos. I'm getting ready to build my first rod. This is great advice. Thank you!

I really like you load testing for optimum guide spacing. Two questions: how do you determine placement of the first guide from the reel seat, and can you suggest a rule of thumb for how much weight to load a rod for guide placement for heavy gaster acting blanks?

In your video you said guide number 3 needed some adjustment. What exactly do you look for? Can you post a video on a rod with all proper guide spacing and one with guides that need some adjustment. Go into detail on what to look for. Thanks. I did enjoy the video.

Old video bit that wrapping bench behind you at the end, I'm curious about it. It looks like a drying setup but I see the thread carriage.

I like the idea, but wondering how well the rubber bands hold when building a casting rod? I've had to use guide adhesive and tape together to keep the guides from rolling over during static testing.

We actually static test casting rods in a similar manner

Very good info. TY Have you ever used Braid to wrap guides? 30 lbs Kast King braid has no coating and sucks up liquid epoxy like white bread and is the same size diameter as size D rod guide thread is it a good idea or a dumb idea?

Thanks for watching. I can’t say we’ve ever used braid to wrap guides, but I’m sure it would work just fine. Only issue that crosses my mind would be around cosmetics. Try it out and let us know!

awesome!

You have to show how the line is going symmetrically between each guide to be OK. Use the fly line to get contrast on your video at close distance for us to see it!

Yes, a close up of how to tie the rubber bands would be helpful~

I use the same method for attaching the guides but instead of using rubber bands I use either Paxcoo 0.8mm Elastic String or Crystal Tec 0.6, it's used for making bracelets etc. , about $6 for 100M
