Very interesting discussion, thank you both for it. Mr. Dreher, I just wonder, since you evidently had an ethical crisis over the Roman Church's mis-handling of their ongoing problem of "inappropriate" behavior with children, which evidently was a stimulus for you to move to the Greek Church (Orthodox), does the 1054 mutual excommunication between the Romans and Greeks impact you at all. I also wonder how you read the Official from Ethiopia in Acts 8:27-39, who evidently after coming to faith in Messiah went on his way for another 1000 miles south to where he was from. Where was the big congregation there that he would participate in? Or did he have a living relation with the Almighty through his faith in Messiah already? For me, I'm thankful for the Almighty's mercy on me, having grown up a non-theist reductionist materialist because of science, but the Almighty broke into my depressing life in my early twenties, back in the '70's. IMHO most "atheists" are merely anti-theists because they have no ability to humble themselves. But I also agree with your assessment that "atheism" is a boomer thing, while the occult in whatever form is the more recent spirit of the world that is flooding the West. May the Almighty have mercy on us.
