I absolutely loved that even though she isn't in the spotlight at the moment, Ymir's words are what gave Historia the will to rebel. She's always been forced into roles. Frieda loved her but she pushed her to become more proper and polite, Rod forced her to become Krista, her mother rejected her existence. All the people who should've had her back either used her, didn't care for her, tried influencing her, or all of the above. But Ymir was one of the few people who gave Historia a choice. Who allowed her to be herself and genuinely made her happy. Ymir might've just saved humanity with just those words alone for the girl she loved.

The moment Historia rejects her father is so powerful because she always wanted the approval of a parent and she knew she would get it if she ate Eren, but after realizing her father tried to manipulate her, she finally breaks free and starts to live a life she's proud of. Showing the moment Ymir expresses her wish is also very powerful because she was the first person to love Historia for who she truly is, rather who she was pretending to be.

Well, its more because of Isayamas awesome writing. Isayama isn't presenting everything and just straight up says that things work this ways. He is awesome in writing the story with tons of foreshadowing. For example, my idea that every Titan is a human came up for me when we know about the weakpoint and seeing eren emerging our of the weakpoint. Actually Annie i havn't seen as the female titan even it was obv, but with Annie as female titan revealed i know, there must be 2 known charakters beeing the Collosal and the armored titan. Seeing Berthold und Reiner beeing the TItanshifter was a logical conclusion. Seeing Ymir eating Marcel and turning abck into a Titan, have me the idea that you have to eat a Titenshifter to become one and thats why titans are so eager to eat humans. Its more crazy taht Montana is sometimes really fast with picking things up and at the same time ignoring known facts

Ok i may be in the minority here but i really do feel bad for rod, so here's an explanation why, i haven't written this but this is essentially how i feel. he's a poor wreck. Having to witness your family getting eaten over and over - starting from puberty onward, though their probably raised to accept this from an even younger age - is terrifying. To top it off, I think he's got some sort of fucked up survivors guilt going on too - he was the one who injected his brother, after all. His father got eaten, and his brother changed. Afterwards Rod says that he "realized" that his brother become a god. Which sounds suspicously like he's justifying it afterwards, in a manner off "WHAT I DID WASN'T BAD! ITS NOT MY FAULT! ITS BETTER THAT WAY! IT HAS TO BE THAT WAY! THERE IS NO OTHER WAY. ITS NOT A BAD THING. ITS A GREAT THING. YOU, YOULL BE GREAT TOO." His entire behavior, from not telling Historia anything unless asked, and trying to convince her of how neccessary and how great it is and oh how he must not do this just makes me thing that he believes it's like dying. In any case Rod really, really, really does not want to take that shot. Or think too deep about that matter. He's certainly not going to question whether his father, or his brother, or eventually even his daughter getting personality-changed - and eaten - is right and proper. Not like he has much of a choice in any case, with the military police and the nobles breathing down his neck. Rod Reiss is a guy that's been traumatized from childhood, and never learned to say no. That is also why Historia doing so completely hit him out of left field - he wasn't close to capable of imagining this - and why it enraged him so hard that he immediately got physical. We see that Rod eventually licks it off his floor, so he doesn't mind transforming if he gets pushed enough. He'll not do it, absolutely not, if there is anyone else who can do it - even if it means that his own daughters have to do the rather fucked up thing of turning into a monster, eating someone alive, making a 180 personality-wise, and eventually be eaten by their kids - but if there's no one else, he'll do it. And why? Because the Rods always dd. His father, his brother, his daugther, they all complied and followed. None questioned and rebelled. And so will he. He is a spineless coward, but that is not solely his fault. Growing up under such circumstances must be terrifying, and while this merely conjecture - I cannot imagine the Reiss family letting you choose whether you inherit the power or not.

The spinal fluid injection has to be put through your bloodstream for it to activate titan transformation and Rod had an open wound in his mouth which is how he changed. And the reason why Rod became this big fucked up monster was because it went inside through a cut, so yes, injection is safer and preferable. It would be a spoiler if I talked about drinking it without having an open wound.

though the historia defiance sequence doesn't contain any titans, odm gear, plot twists, or epic battles, it is still one of the most badass moments of the series. when i first watched it, i kept screaming in my head "BADASS QUEEN!!!!". the music and the way she flips rod over her shoulder... truly epic. what makes it epic is the choice she made. she decided to live her own life by what she wanted, like ymir encouraged her to. she stopped looking from approval from rod. she became her own person. she stopped caring about sacrificing herself to save other people. like kenny's before, life has to be worth something otherwise you're just breathing for the sake of it, which is a powerful message. i'm not saying if it's right or wrong, but i'm sure a lot of viewers resonate with it: life is meaningless if you don't enjoy it or live it the way you want to.
