Rod Serling for Radio Shack

I, Everette! have NEVER baked a box cake!! Seriously, that's too much like paint-by-numbers for me. I always enjoy baking from scratch, I'll get flour, milk, eggs, sugar, rum extract and so on and then create a tasty treat that could last maybe a day or two?!!? Then when it taste delicious, I feel SO proud!! Some things are exciting to create, as long as they turn out the same size as any equivalent creation, but for $17.95 I think I'd just go out and BUY a transistor radio instead of building this table-top lil' radio?!? This commercial is from the 1970s, and if Radio Shack today sold an .mp3/iPod kit, I'd pass on that too...

I remember building a radio once, probably from a Radio Shack kit. I think it picked up 1 station, but I was happy it worked w/ no battery or plug.

I built an AM wireless mic kit. The crystal mike never worked properly, the best I was able to do was tap on it, and have the AM radio in my room pick up the tapping, lol.

Rod did this around 1973. He often appeared in commercials like this to make a little extra money (but always with a bit of regret). Marvin Miller is the announcer at the end.

When I think of Mazda in the early 1970's I think of those commercials for their cars with the rotary Wankel engines.
