Rock 'n' roller Rod Stewart and big-band leader Jools Holland share an enthusiasm for model trains, and music. So, when the two decided to get together to make an album of jazz classics from the 1930s and '40s, they were definitely on the same track. But the 79-year-old rocker tells correspondent Mark Phillips that performing old swing-era hits doesn't mean he's slowing down.

I remember I was walking behind someone near Central Park, and without seeing the face of the person in front of me, I instantly thought, 'this guy has Rod Stewart hair.' It turns out, it was Rod himself, just another New York character out for a stroll.

I’m in my 50’s and it’s incredible to me how some individuals have this spectacularly potent Life Force where age and 80 is invisible as a barrier. Rod Stewart, Ridley Scott, Mick Jagger, etc. are going strong as ever with no indication of retiring. It’s Inspiring.

You not going to mention that Jools was in bloody Squeeze and fronts the biggest music TV show in the UK? He deserves a bit more credit for the album, surely? Very talented musician and a nice bloke.

Definetly no Q's: Jools injected some of the finest moments during the squeeze early yrs. The more i got into squeeze and the more i watched jools on tv, either it be the tube dvd or playing piano in a comedy sketch or simply interviewing someone, the more i took a liking to him. Jools holland a total music nut. It was always nice to see gilson lavis drumming away like no other in jools's rhythm and blues band aswell.

Rod Stewart is long overdue for his Kennedy center honors for his contributions to American culture. His voice and songs and music and his ability to adapt to different genres have been transcendent to many generations. You might not like his music but he was part of music history. Plus the center have honored Brits before.

It took me a few years to really get into Rod Stewart. To parapharase Seinfeld's Library Cop "Glam Rock was never my bag." Today, I can now name my top five favorite Rod songs in an instant. 1. Mandolin Wind 2. Maggie May 3. You Wear It Well 4. Rhythm of My Heart (Thank you, Ted Danson's movie Loch Ness.) 5. We Can Win There are so many others. As for Jools Holland, in addition to being a remarkable piano player who clearly loves the old Boogie Woogie style of playing, his BBC show Later With.... is responsible for some of my favorite live TV performances. Some of the best moments are when, as one performer is at work, the camera cuts to the other performers singing along, dancing along to, or just looking at awe. For example, Joe Strummer singing along to Warren Zevon, or when Barry Gibb had the entire room in his hand rocking out to Jive Talkin. Jools himself has had some awesome performances, as lead or backup. I hope this project will introduce new generations to him.

His memoir is a must read if you are a fan. When I read his interest in model trains, I realized he is a keen bloke. My brother had a train set in his teens and wondered why he didn't continue. The book is very insightful to Rod's loves (all, not just the women); you realize he is a well-spoken, well-rounded person.

Have been a fan since I was a young boy, hearing my Dad play Mr. Stewart’s first album. When he released “Your In My Heart” in 77, his ode to his beloved Football team, as a football fan myself it solidified him as my fav singer/songwriter. We’ve seen him live several times and in the early 80’s my future wife and I were fortunate enough to meet him and say hello at a family friend’s restaurant in SF (House of Shields). He was a joy to meet even if it was just a couple seconds of pleasantries.

Taking nothing away from Sir Rod, but you needed to give a little more credit to Jools Holland for this album. He is a great producer and arranger, as well as an amazing piano player. I’m listening as much for the band on these recordings as I am to Rod's vocals.

"But I've got an amazing talent and you haven't" - Brit wit! 1st concert ever, 17-years old, Rory Gallagher intro for "Rod Stewart & the Faces" - Tucson Community Center, 1973. I had listened and loved their albums in high school - what a force, saying it all to the youth of the 60's & 70's! Love swing and always hoping for it's comeback.

I’ve loved Rod since I was a teenager and have been to an innumerable number of his concerts. When I was 18 and going on a European tour with 40 other graduating seniors from my high school, the main downside was that I had to miss one of his concerts. I’ve lived in Palos Verdes most of my life, and I have friends and acquaintances who’ve played “football” with him here many times or have seen him at Hennessy's in the Riviera in Redondo Beach, and I have NEVER had the pleasure. I even was a good friend of a woman whose stepdaughter was his personal assistant in the “aughts,” and I still couldn’t meet him! No one ever will replace Rod in my “heart and soul!” Plus, my dad also built model trains and layouts, all from scratch.

Rod's voice a shadow of itself today (first clip is him singing to his record) but God that first album 'Every Picture Tells A Story' (with Faces bandmate Ron Wood), title track, Mandolin Wind, You Wear It Well, etc. the brandy-marinated soul voice, absolutely sensational. Timeless. Later Stones take-offs "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" and "Hot Legs" and "Infatuation" with Beck and "Love Touch" from Legal Eagles nice too. Jools Holland a good curator of these guys. The Rutles may have been bigger than Rod but stay Forever Young Mr. Stewart!! 🎉❤🎉

A really great guy, Sir Rodney, seniors are invited to stand up and swing it some more because.. music is regenerating, music is healthy and positive, music is the best pain killer anti stress medication above all. Eternal gratitude gorgeous performers that made of our lives a better place, wishing them never get tired having fun cheer us up and singing along...no matter what to the last breath. I love to use web connection and encourage them all because. ..invisible supporters like me have no chances to reach the celebrities universe where ...lucky sons are born already famous. Life is cruel forcing us to do things we do not want to do, therefore I trully wish music stars sons...go for it kids, think about me and help me carry on my vengeance and all those who have no voice to speak up, we need a world of freedom of expression.. otherwise, what an annoying planet of dummies and lifeless puppets on strings huh? These vintage music stars remind us the ages when...mostly in UK there were music happenings every corner of the street, it seemed that people have nothing to do but having fun all the time, and there was plenty of room for all of them, still today, from Led Zeppelin to Tom Jones there's plenty of room in our hearts for all of them and we love them of a lifetime by now and we never have enough of them ❤🎉❤

He does have that ability to make it feel like just a conversation between him and his subject, but an intimate one. I think he makes the people he interviews very comfortable, like it's not an "interview", which is huge. Have you noticed his tone of voice is often quieter, like "we're sharing private information now" and he always looks the person square in the eye. He is a very good journalist, for sure.
