I saw an interview with both Rod & George where George told Rod how his mom bought this record for George, which was her way of telling him I know you are gay but I still love you. It's sad because Boy George mom recently passed, and this would have been an incredible moment for her to have witnessed, but I'm sure she was watching from above. Beautiful song.❤

I do too, but record companies in the '70s were still very skittish about songs or records about gay men. Motown released "I Was Born This Way" by Carl Bean and tracks like "Everybody's Gay in L.A." by The Miracles but these rare recordings did not commercially cross over to the mainstream. They were underground tracks and considered brave releases by those of us who were part of that era. Despite all but living in the '70s gay discos, I rarely got the opportunity to dance to these early era gay themed records but often got to dance to tracks like "In the Bush" ("push push in the bush...lol! remember that one?)

I met Rod Stewart and got his autograph in the fall of 1981 in Manhattan, NYC. It was at a popular place named The Ritz. Rod was at a table with 2 other people to see Tina Turner. She was making her "comeback." It was a series of concerts there. I was a part-time professional photographer at age 21. I got a photographer's and guest pass and attended many of her shows. I hung out backstage with the band and met many musical luminaries like Mick Jagger et al. Since it was an intimate setting, I didn't feel comfortable asking to photograph them. I took 190's of photos of Tina in color and Black& White. One is autographed by her and the band. There were no provions for transportation for the band members. My friend and I drove the guitarist, his guitar, and girlfriend to the famous-but at the time shoddy hotel-The Gramercy Park. They couldn't catch a taxi. Rod was gracious, Mick was standoffish. I was also invited to a rehearsal. Many great memories. P.S. After Rod, seeing Tina's show, he asked her to open for him on his upcoming tour. Of course she did. The rest is history.
