This was sort of a reunion of Rod Stewart and Ron Wood (guitarist) who recorded many songs and toured before Ron joined The Rolling Stones in 1975 (till present). In the original 1971 recording Ronnie played a 12 string guitar, a six string electric and bass guitar. Rod Stewart is a great performer... a library of work worth diving into.

I have to agree with Pulsar, I like this performance better than the original recording, although I don't think anyone is deaf because they prefer the original. And I definitely don't think every original recording is always better than every performance that comes after it. I think Bobby Hatfield's performance of Unchained Melody on the Andy Williams show was much better than his original recording of the song, despite the fact that the original version was awesome too. And The Who really had great songs from the start, but they became much tighter as the years passed and definitely often played live performances that were even more impressive than some of the original recordings.

Liked your reaction but you will NEVER see Rod calmer. He used to totally own the stage, :) He joined The Faces ( Find myself a Rock and Roll Band that needs a helping hand ) and this was their first major hit 50 years ago. They used to play Soccer on stage DURING the songs as there were really 5 very good London mates. Rod became so popular that it became Rod Stewart And The Faces and then he went solo and had major hits for 40 years. His greatest Loves are 1/ FOOTBALL 2/ His Wives and Family 3/ His Scottishness though he was born in England 4/ Celtic Football Club 5/Music 7/His Famous Train Set :)

Ronnie Wood on guitar there. He and Rod were in a group called the faces. Ronnie eventually went to the Rolling Stones. It's bout when he was a schoolboy and went with an older (mature 😂) woman. There's original 1971 live performance of the song. This version I like better as it's unplugged (acoustic) As far as theatrics the 1971 performance would've done justice. Perhaps take a gander at your leisure. Ask your momma bout Maggie Mae after all she put you in your place with a song called don't you think I'm sexy. Just making sport 😉For the record it can be spicy. Glad you took a moment to having a listen.

There is a really fantastic version of Rod singing this song accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Definitely worth searching for. "Maggie May" was his first big solo hit. Others include "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy," "Tonight's the Night (Gonna Be Alright)," "Forever Young," "Downtown Train." In 1990, he recorded a duet with the great Tina Turner of "It Takes Two," the old Motown classic originally recorded by Marvin Gaye and Kim Weston. The song didn't chart in the US, but it was fantastic. (Although if you're going to react to "It Takes Two," you really ought to do the original by Marvin Gaye and Kim Weston, it's one of the best Motown songs ever recorded.) Rod's earlier career before he went solo and released "Maggie May," he was with a band called "Faces." Their most notable hit singles were "(I Know) I'm Losin' You," another old Motown hit originally recorded by The Temptations, and "Stay With Me," which is definitely worth a reaction. And going back even farther, before he was in the band Faces, he joined a group called "Small Faces" that had a 1968 hit called "Itchycoo Park," which is another one that deserves a reaction video. It was not a huge hit, but it was a benchmark song of the psychedelic sixties. I'm not entirely sure if Rod Stewart had yet joined the group at the time they recorded that song. Before joining Small faces, Rod Stewart spent some time as part of the Jeff Beck Group. Jeff Beck, another member of Small Faces, is considered by many to be one of the greatest musicians to come out of that late '60s psychedelic rock era. Beck had been a member of the great British band, the Yardbirds, another group you should look into ("Heart Full of Soul," "For Your Love," "Over Under Sideways Down," to name a few).
