I have always appreciated Rod Stewart's talent. He sells the song and his phrasing is perfect I think. Tom Waits wrote it and he is tough to compete with but Rod did a superb job as only he could.

Don’t know what it is but his voice does get into your very soul Not many singers can do that I think that the lower tones are more engaging So many hit the highs & ok yeah it’s very talented, but not always emotive Rod Stewart could have recorded with Motown or Chess Records He’s so unique, often he has wasted that beautiful voice, but when it comes down to it he always does that killer song And this song is just one of many When I leave this world I want to go out with a Rod number playing
