Rodanthe was a mistake to build on in the first place. The barrier islands move all the time, without rising sea levels. Norfolk VA has the fastest rate of sea lever rise, it's 5.3 millimeters per year. Norfolk can easily adapt, these islands can't.

Couple of questions if you don't mind: 1. Does the local govt authority or whoever require homeowners, at the very least, clean up/empty the septic and/or remove anything toxic from the home, knowing eventually it's all going to end up in the ocean? 2. Why isn't the home stripped of building materials that could be used - doors, windows, toilets, sinks, cabinetry, etc.... AND this would decrease amount of waste/pollution ending up in the ocean? This seems so ignorant to me, to just let the house sit there, land eroding, all that ending up as pollution and waste. Thanks for uploading. Interesting to see. I've vacationed in Kitty Hawk and Avon, and TBH, wasn't crazy about OBX. The water was too rough to swim in, IMO. Got knocked on my behind a few times. I'll take the FL Gulf Coast beaches all day!

@@TrustKnowWun houses get condemned by the local government, the clean up is the responsibility of the homeowner, they could technically strip it if they wanted to

As long as you don't blame it on climate change. Don't forget, everyday the water level rises and falls twice a day. And every year the temperature gets 40 or 50 degrees hotter and colder depending on the season. If you're silly enough to build a beach house on stilts, don't complain when it washes away. P.S. I say this with some standing. My wife's uncle had a beach house near Myrtle Beach that was wiped out by Hugo. When they went to check on it, all that was left was a refrigerator that had been in the garage. They couldn't rebuild because beach erosion didn't leave enough room from the water. Part of their place was on stilts.

We know that climate change is real and that land formations come and go. There's really no denying that climate change is at least a natural cycle that earth goes through. I think people assume that when someone says climate change they are referring to human caused climate change by the burning of fossil fuels.

@ucruci4 ай бұрын
It's not a permanent solution. The sand has to be replenished over and over every few years, imagine the cost.
@MesaBoogieman823 ай бұрын
Because it's a sliver of sand less than a few 10ths of a mile wide. It would wash away in months.
